Politico Warns Of “Real Risks” To Voting Infrastructure While Citing “Debunked” 2020 Claims

Politico just ran an article called, “6 election security threats to watch for on Election Day.” They specifically highlight “hacking threats and disinformation fears” as well as “a bevy of digital threats.” It’s almost like they’re setting the stage to argue that there was fraud in the election if Democrats lose, which they will. And this is SO WEIRD considering that in the very same article, they say,

“The 2020 presidential election was rife with allegations of voting machine hacks that were later debunked. Yet there are real risks that hackers could tunnel into voting equipment and other election infrastructure to try to undermine Tuesday’s vote.”

Oh, so the allegations of fraud, tampering, hacking, and interference through disinformation and digital manipulation were totally “debunked” for the 2020 election and that’s all just a total conspiracy theory that is actually dangerous to democracy, but every single one of those things is suddenly a threat to Tuesday’s election and Democrats are completely justified in their concerns? There are “real risk” now, but they weren’t real for 2020? They’re somehow only real for 2022, when Dems will lose? That seems awfully convenient, doesn’t it? That Democrats can claim fraud for the outcome of the midterms, even preemptively, but Republicans couldn’t even discuss the possibility of fraud influencing the 2020 election without being labeled a threat, an insurrectionist, or an election denier?

Politico went on to say,

“As 2020 showed, even an attempt to change votes — or the mere allegation of tampering — could undermine faith in the outcome.”

To me, this sounds an awful lot like they’re admitting that the lack of faith in the security and legitimacy of the 2020 election is completely justified. That the kind of real security risks that lead to allegations or attempts to tamper could undermine faith in the outcome, and that’s reasonable. They’re basically explaining that if Democrats lose (which they will) and if Democrats allege tampering (which they will) and if they say that allegation undermines their faith in the security and legitimacy of the 2022 midterms (which they will), then that would make perfect sense and be completely justified because it is a legitimate threat.

But it somehow wasn’t for 2020. That was all just dangerous anti-democracy conspiracy theories.
