CNN just did a “fact check roundup” of some of Biden’s most egregious lies and misleading claims in the lead-up to the midterm elections. And it’s been sorely needed. I mean, conservative media and commentators have been fact checking his pathological lies every step of the way for 2.5 years, but I guess it’s better late than never for CNN, right? On Several times this week, including tonight, President Biden repeated the huge lie that he has “cut the federal debt in half.” But that’s not even close to true. In fact, the federal debt was $27.7 Trillion when Joe Biden took office in January of 2021. And last month, the federal debt exceeded $31 Trillion for the first time in our history. We hit $31.2.
Biden again says he "literally cut the federal debt in half."

No, the $31+ trillion federal debt has not been cut in half. pic.twitter.com/bUmwM8tKmx
Twice this week, President Biden has claimed he has “cut the federal debt in half.”

Fact check: US National Debt was $27.7 Trillion on the day Joe Biden took office. Today, US National Debt is $31.2 Trillion.pic.twitter.com/2EsjShshJd
BIDEN: "We cut the federal debt in half — a fact!"

That is not a "fact." That is a lie. pic.twitter.com/7bpGGZdGZ1
What he probably meant was that he has cut the federal deficit in half, which is COMPLETELY different than the federal debt, not that I’d expect Biden to have any idea what either of those numbers actually are or actually mean. The federal deficit is the yearly difference between federal spending and federal revenue. But, interestingly, CNN’s Daniel Dale fact checked even this claim, saying,
“It’s highly questionable how much credit Biden deserves for even the reduction in the deficit. Biden doesn’t mention that the primary reason the deficit plummeted in fiscal years 2021 and 2022 was that it had skyrocketed to a record high in 2020 because of emergency pandemic relief spending. It then fell as expected as the spending expired as planned.”
I’m not going to lie, I’m SHOCKED that CNN actually fact checked that. Usually they give Biden and the reigning Democrat party a total pass on misleading claims like this, figuring the people won’t really know what federal deficit is and probably won’t be aware of the mitigating circumstances that make this claim extremely misleading. But for some reason, this time, they actually checked the facts. And yes, I’m honestly shocked.

Joe Biden lying like he and all of the other Democrats always do.
Two things- 1- That is the first time I’ve heard him say “debt”, so the other article (“Fact Check Roundup”) makes more sense. 2- That is from the covid insanity highs, not from cuts is normal spending. That is still way up from 2019 (which was way up from 2018, which was way up from 2017).
The only good things that happen during this Presidency have been because of triggers and sunset clauses from previous administrations, yet they are so desperate for a win they try to take credit for things they clearly didn’t do.
In government accounting terms if you ask for a 100 million increase for something but only get 50 million, that is considered a a 50% cut.
