Darrell Brooks Jr. is accused of plowing through a Christmas parade last year. He’s currently in court facing 6 counts of first-degree intentional homicide, 61 counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, 6 counts of hit and run involving death, 2 counts of bail jumping-felony, and 2 counts of battery related to domestic abuse. And he is representing himself. He’s prone to outbursts and has been ordered out of the courtroom on several occasions by Judge Jennifer Dorow.
In a 50-minute rant to the court, Brooks claims that the court has a conflict of interest and demanded that the case be dismissed as he is unable to “face his accuser,” which is a right protected under the 6th amendment. Y’all, he’s mad that his accusers, his victims, aren’t in the courtroom for him to face. Well, some of them aren’t there BECAUSE HE (allegedly) KILLED THEM. He mowed these people down with his SUV like they were nothing more than annoying orange traffic cones blocking his way.
THAT’S why his accusers aren’t in the court room. And that’s why he IS in the courtroom. To stand trial for their senseless murders.

This dude is disgusting. Absolutely gross. He berates and attacks witnesses, essentially revictimizing them on the stand. And now he has the audacity to suggest that the whole case should be dismissed because all of his victims aren’t in the courtroom? The dude really is morally bankrupt.
He also hilariously insisted that he does not identify by the name Darrell Brooks, and doesn’t appreciate being called by that name during court proceedings. “For the record, I still would not consent to that name or agree to that name.” The judge responded that he hasn’t provided an alternative name and that all inmate communication has been under the name of Darrell Brooks, Jr., and Brooks’ statement was noted.
Oh, and he wears a mask in court. Because safety first, of course. Gotta protect everyone. Wouldn’t want to kill grandma…

If Brookes is complaining that he can’t face his accuser, he doesn’t have to worry about that. It’s the state that is accusing him of the violence and murder.
Just as asinine as the Menendez brothers, who after killing their parents with a shotgun, asked for mercy from the court since they were now orphans.
