Why the Energy Shortage in Europe is a Big Deal

If you caught Tucker on Monday night, you might have heard about the energy crisis happening in Europe right now.  Germany is running out of firewood to buy, so they are now cutting down their own wood to heat their homes this winter.  70% of restaurants in the UK will be closing their doors because they are unable to afford heat and electricity.  In Poland people are lined up outside of coal mines to buy coal. 

Energy costs are projected to increase over 100%.  It has increased 50% in just a week.  All across Europe it’s been lights out at major tourist attractions at night to preserve energy.

Why is energy so expensive in Europe right now?  Because they relied so much on Russian energy.  Once the war started in the Ukraine and the sanctions were put into place by Europe on Russia, energy became scarce.   

But to be fair, it’s not like it should have been a shock to Europeans.  Trump warned Europe about this and 2018 and he got laughed at. 

Remember when we were completely energy dependent, and then we shut down the pipelines and became dependent on Russian energy too?

Unfortunately, the sanctions put on Russia aren’t even hurting Russia, but rather the countries that imposed the sanctions.

If Europeans can’t even afford to heat their homes, they can no longer afford to buy certain products, go on vacations, and ultimately, help out other economies.  What does this mean for economies of other countries around the world?  What does it mean for our economy? 

On top of our economy being hurt by Europe’s energy crisis, we are on our way to our own energy crisis.  We are constantly being told that green energy is the way to go.  If that was the case, then Europe would be fine, right?  There’s plenty of green energy to go around!  It’s renewable!  Fossil Fuels are a thing of the past, so who cares if gas is too expensive?  As Tucker puts it, “Green energy cannot replace fossil fuels.”  If Europe can’t survive on green energy when all the fossil fuels are too expensive, how can we?
