Pretty much every part of the COVID response was a slippery slope. Anyone who had two braincells to rub together could see that so many of the unscientific and illogical policies had the potential to be abused in the future. Once you set a precedent of forced compliance with authoritarian policies that don’t make any sense, then you pave the way to impose more and force compliance with them as well. And now we’re seeing it with masks.
According to the UC Berkeley website regarding Coronavirus and masks, the school states:
UC Berkeley mask requirements:
-Masks are strongly recommended, but not required, indoors — regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status.
-(Masks are required during flu season if not vaccinated for flu.)
-Outdoors, masks are optional for everyone.
At Berkeley anyone who isn’t vaccinated for the flu must wear a mask, by executive order from the university president. This is where we are. pic.twitter.com/XCwzPpefWd

During COVID, people pointed out how weird it was that the flu seemed to magically disappear and that unscientific rules and policies were being imposed for COVID that have never been imposed for the flu. It’s like Berkeley decided to embrace the fact that they were hypocrites with the mask policy during COVID and compensate for that hypocrisy, not by dropping the stupid and unnecessary mask mandates but by imposing a stupid and unnecessary mask mandate for the flu.
Mind you, college kids are at perhaps the LEAST risk from flu, with young children and the elderly being most at risk for serious flu-related complications. So this is once again setting a slippery-slope precedent. If they feel they can justify an unscientific and illogical flu-related mask mandate on the population that is at the least risk from flu, then how quickly could they justify one on populations at greater risk, like young kids? Are they going to try to force our kids into masks forever, just jumping from one excuse to the next until compliance is the standard? If it’s not “flu season,” then maybe it’s “back-to-school sickness season” or “post-spring-break sickness season,” and then it’s pretty much just masks at school always, just in case. Any justification is sufficient justification for those who want to gain and keep power. And make no mistake, masks are simply a tool to gain and keep power. They are an outward symbol of compliance. A public virtue signal that you are dutifully obedient to those who have assumed power over you. And they have no intention of relinquishing that power.
