August Pelosi, Meet April Pelosi Who Said Biden Doesn’t Have “Power For Debt Forgiveness”

Politicians don’t care too much about being consistent. In fact, it’s almost a political art form to be able to be inconsistent without being held accountable for your inconsistency. It’s a bipartisan issue, really. But sometimes, the inconsistency is so shocking and blatant, it’s called a flip-flop. And sometimes, the flip-flops are so impressive, they should win Olympic gymnastics gold medals. And Nancy Pelosi is channeling her inner Gabby Douglas with her flip-flopping stance on student debt cancellation.

Watch this clip of Pelosi emphatically explaining that the President does NOT have the power to forgive debt. “That has to be an act of Congress.”

Now compare that to her stance yesterday, when she called Biden’s $300B student loan “forgiveness” a “bold action” and a “strong step.”

You and I and Nancy Pelosi all know that’s not how debt works. Declaring it “cancelled” or “forgiven” doesn’t just make it magically disappear. That debt must be paid in some other way and by some other person– in this case, through inflation and increased national debt. And the tab will be picked up by the American taxpayers. All of us. Even the ones who didn’t go to college and didn’t take out student loans, or who took out student loans for college and responsibly paid them back. But the Democrats needed some semblance of a win ahead of the midterms, in which they are expected to be decimated. So why not throw $300B more dollars we DON’T have to entice the few voters who are stupid enough to vote for the Democrats? You know, the ones who just made inflation and the economy even worse.

Pelosi is between a rock and a hard place with this flip-flop. She could speak out and say that she hasn’t really changed her stance because in April, because then she was saying that the President does not have the power for “debt forgiveness,” and Biden’s current “bold” plan doesn’t actually forgive or cancel any debt. It simply transfers the debt to all American taxpayers rather than making the individual loan holders pay back their own loans. But then she’d have to actually admit that. See how that works? Then people wouldn’t see this as quite so much of a win, which defeats the purpose of the whole plan.

So which is better for a politician? She’s apparently decided she prefers the flip-flopping to giving up the momentary perceived win that might buy them a few votes in a few months.
