

According to the sourcelink, the Minneapolis public school system reached an agreement effective Spring of 2023 with the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers in order to end a two week long teachers’ strike. The new contract will stipulate that white teachers get laid off before teachers of color.
If you’re thinking, “That’s blatantly racist and illegal” then congratulations. You are a normal human being. The problem is that we’re not living in normal times.
Typically, when teachers have been subject to layoffs or reductions in staff or relocations, it’s seniority that is considered first. But not anymore! Now the focus is on how to avoid making a teacher of color subject to any of those things, and if a white teacher who has more seniority has to be sacrificed, welp, so be it. I mean, who cares, honestly. White people are so gross, amirite?
Greta Callahan is the head of the teachers’ union, and you can tell where she gets her completely wacked out ideology.

Here’s the specific line from the Actual Contract:
‘The District shall deprioritize the more senior teacher, who is not a member of an underrepresented population, in order to recall a teacher who is a member of a population underrepresented among licensed teachers’.
I mean, it’s pretty clear.
And we’re also about to see it play out, considering that it’s entirely likely the district will be cutting jobs soon due to lower enrollments.
Former Gov Scott Walker, who knows a thing or two about dealing with the absolute hellscape that is teachers’ unions, tweeted: ‘This is racist. This is illegal. This is another example of why government unions should be eliminated’.
YUP.
There need to be lawsuits. Immediately. This absolutely cannot stand.

Those in power keep doing this because there is no personal costs to them. The union does not care if this is legal or not. It is not like they are spending their money to defend this stupidity. If they lose, they will just be told they cannot do it anymore. The only one who will lose is the poor sap who gets unfairly laid off and cannot afford to litigate.

It shall be an unlawful employment practice for an employer –

Prohibited by the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Forbids discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin. It also prohibits segregation in schools, public accommodations. and employment. Teachers and teachers’ unions are ignorant beyond belief.
The Teacher’s Union has to know this will be challenged in court and they will likely lose. Are they really this stupid or do they have an ulterior motive?
