After her controversial trip to Taiwan, Speaker Pelosi talked to NBC during which she explained her feelings, saying, “China is one of the freest societies in the world. . . Strong democracy, courageous people.”
PELOSI: “China is one of the freest societies in the world.”

Apparently, Nancy Pelosi believes that China, ruled by a violent and genocidal dictatorship, is a “strong democracy” and “one of the freest societies in the world.” And suddenly, so much of what they’ve been doing makes so much more sense. If she truly believes this, then no wonder she’s desperately trying to turn America into China. No wonder she’s fighting for authoritarianism and communism in this country. She thinks a violent and genocidal dictatorship is the golden standard.
Now, some have suggested that she misspoke and meant to say that “Taiwan” is one of the freest societies in the world and a strong democracy. If that’s true and she did misspeak, that is a HUGE mistake to make. I’m sorry, but at what point do we stop giving these people a free pass for major flubs like that? At what point does what they actually say matter? And when exactly is a “slip of the tongue” just the speaker accidentally telling the truth about what they really think?
If she meant to say “Taiwan” instead of “China,” then doesn’t that mean she’s undermining China’s authority over Taiwan? To say that they are a free society contradicts the notion that they belong to China. So does saying they are a strong democracy, which is what she felt obligated to reiterate in the face of accusations that her trip to Taiwan undermined the American agreement to recognize China as having control over Taiwan.
Meanwhile, China is probably either outraged that she meant to undermine them by stating that Taiwan is a free society and a strong democracy or cheering that Speaker Pelosi meant to praise and validate them by calling them a free society and a strong democracy.

This just her trying to save face after making prc angry.
China has changed largely in the past 20 years. They refer to their economy aa market socialism, but it is pure capitalism. They finally figured out that if people are allowed to generate wealth for their own benefit that they are more productive. At the same time the government there is as corrupt as ever. I have to be very careful what I say to friends and family in China so that I don’t attract unwanted government attention for them. the government squashes anyone with a dissenting opinion. There are goon squads to make you disappear if you are perceived as a threat to the CCP. They want to remove Hong Kong, Taiwan and elsewhere that freedom exists. The comparison is like East Berlin and West Berlin back when the wall stood.
How is there system capitalistic when they have planned economy ?
Yeah right. Women in China are told how many children they can have. China is all about human rights. End sarcasm.
It’s not the most human right respecting decision but they did it for a good reason.
Maybe she needs a little less “screw”, and a lot more “driver” in her morning juice glass.
I doubt that she has had a screw in decades.
Regardless whether she “meant” to say Taiwan or not, she just handed a huge PR coup to China’s communist PR on a silver platter. I’m sure Chinese media has been running WILD with that sound clip for a while now.
I do not ever remember being taught or seen democracy in China. And I am 63.
