August 2, 2022You guys, there are jobs in the world that I know I could never ever ever ever do. And being the person responsible for killing animals that end up feeding people is one of those jobs. I couldn’t do it.
Now, do I eat animals? Yes. I love me a nice steak. I like a good pork chop. Sometimes there’s nothing better than a burger. I’m not as fond of veal, and I don’t eat lamb – mostly because they’re just not as tasty to me, but also because there is this part of me that can’t get over the fact that they’re babies. It’s irrational, probably, but I do think about it.
Y’all know how much I love furry creatures. But I also eat them. And I wear leather shoes. My car has leather seats. At the same time, I refuse to wear fur coats. I have these lines that I just don’t cross when it comes to eating baby animals and wearing fur that came from an animal designed SOLELY to make someone feel glamorous. I can’t do it. YMMV.
ANYWAY, I read a headline that said Gordon Ramsay is getting a lot of flak for a recent video he posted on Tiktok. See it for yourself.

SO many people are angry at him for this. From the source:
“What a classless, out-of-touch and heartless way to treat another sentient being,” one person wrote in a duet video.
Another person accused Ramsay of “animal abuse.”
“Do you think that grown men should be teaching children on TikTok that animal abuse is funny,” the person wrote in their response.
One user called out not only Ramsay, but those making jokes about the video in his comment section.
“Those are babies. Literal babies,” the person said in the duet. “This is not normal behavior … it’s not funny. it’s not entertaining and if you think animals don’t understand us, look how scared they are when he gets in the pen.”
Now, apparently, he explained later that “No animals were cooked in the making of this video” – and many people took it with the humor Ramsay intended. But still. People are upset.
I personally couldn’t get into a pen with baby lambs and think about eating them. But I don’t mind that Ramsay did. Was he a little crass? Maybe. I certainly don’t think that simply because he cooks up lamb and veal that he’s some sort of psycho animal abuser. I think he just sees animals as a food source.
I know I’m weird and all over the place on this issue. It’s kinda like how I used to work at a life sciences company that had facilities in which animal testing was conducted. I could never BE the person who does the testing. But I understand why some testing is necessary. I think about that every time I swallow any medication I’m on.

I fill my freezer with wild game every fall. From venison (deer) to pheasant and I do get beef from a local rancher.
Now with that said, I refuse to purchase any meet from the local supermarket because I will not consume that crap that is pumped up with God knows what drug or chemical.
For the most part I couldn’t kill animals I knew unless the offspring was starving. I go by the rule from Through The Looking Glass: never eat anything to whom/which you have been introduced.
I am, however, on a repeated loop with one of the article comments. Sentient? How ignorant and confused do you have to be to think sheep, of all creatures, are sentient? Those darling lambs turn into sheep, and one must have the relationship entirely in ones head to have a pet sheep. There is a reason people are reluctant to eat cats and dogs, (and democrats), but no sheep.
Add to this, you can only have very few rams to a herd.

Well. I definitely eat animals, but I’m with you Mock. I would never want to be the person that actually kills them.
They really need to watch The F Word, one of his cooking shows (the ‘F’ stands for ‘food’). He raises a few animals each season to serve during the finale and he puts their picture on the tables. These nutters would have a cow.
Side note- his kids raising the turkeys are adorable.
Country folks and hunters know where their meat comes from. They kill, dress, butcher and preserve meats. City people think it is raised in plastic wrap. My wife was born and raised in a part of China where lamb and mutton are more common than pork. We both enjoy lamb. Her filled dumplings with ground lamb are beyond delicious.
Oh so true. Not a fan of lamb but do eat my share of beef, venison and pheasant.
Everyone knows Gordon Ramsay is kind of a dick. That makes him an easy target for haters who read People magazine to form an opinion. That being said, none of the meat-eating complainers give a rodent’s rear end about animals being slaughtered because they need to fill their hungry tummies. They just don’t want to know about it.
Meanwhile many of these same people will march and scream at “pro-choice” rallies that encourage women to kill their unborn babies. Unborn babies that react much the same way these lambs did to Ramsey jumping into their pen when a “doctor” tries to kill them.
I’m a big animal lover and admitted omnivore. I know how where the steaks, chops, roasts, and wings I eat come from. Like Mock, I’d have a hell of a time killing and cleaning an animal to eat but I realize how it happens. I actually thought this video was kind of funny. I could see why people would find it distasteful but that makes it even funnier.
After the pro-choice rally they have dinner, then go to a candlelight vigil to protest the execution of a child murdering rapist.
The lambs weren’t scared because Gordon Ramsey is some evil, animal-eating monster. They were scared because of the sudden movement of him swinging his legs over the fence while the fence made loud noises.
There ya’ go! The sound of the metal rattle scared them, too.
People need to understand where meat, leather, etc. comes from. And stop getting triggered over every little thing. Go spend some time, preferably a month in the spring, on a cattle ranch so you know what goes on. On second thought, don’t. You couldn’t handle it.
