Report: Taliban Kills Woman On The Street In Kabul For Not Wearing Burqa

The Taliban have reportedly killed a woman in the street because she left her home without a burqa.

This should have women’s rights activists screaming from the nearest rooftop, but they’re oddly quiet.

An Afghanistan woman was allegedly shot and killed Tuesday by the Taliban for not wearing a burqa, according to Fox News.

Taliban Commander Assad Massoud Khistani recently told CNN’s Chief International Correspondent Clarissa Ward that women should not be fearful of the Taliban but must cover up.

The Taliban, however, has attempted to paint themselves as pro-women’s rights in recent days, encouraging women to join the government. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Tuesday that women’s rights would be honored within the confines of sharia law, according to Fox News. Taliban cultural commission member Enamullah Samangani also said the new government will “provide women with [the] environment to work and study.”

According to NBC News:

Images of the Taliban cracking down on a protest and bloodied women and children beaten by fighters are contradicting the more moderate image the militant group has been trying to project as it tries to consolidate power in Afghanistan.

You may be wondering, “how is the Taliban responding to allegations of blatant hypocrisy?”

Their officials deny their fighters have been involved in this sort of violence, blaming the injuries on men impersonating the Taliban.

It’s not the Taliban that’s beating women and children unconscious in the street. It’s bad guys who are dressed as Taliban fighters who are trying to undermine them.

Ok.

The Taliban told us that they would provide safe passage to those who wanted to get to the airport.

Well, now they’re beating people who try to get in.
