On Monday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy visited the U.S. Mexico border, something President Joe Biden has yet to do despite the desperate border crisis resulting from Biden’s own open-border and pro-illegal immigrant policies. Following the visit, McCarthy stated that border agents expressed concern that suspected terrorists from nations around the world were using the open southern border to cross into the United States.

Democrat lawmakers, politicians, and Biden admin supporters mocked and accused McCarthy and other House Republicans of fear mongering and making things up. Of course, multiple media outlets published articles about it.
The Washington Post explained why people think that that McCarthy is a liar in an article titled, “Democrats question Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s claim that terrorists are crossing the border: ‘He is either wrong or lying.'”
Yahoo News explained that Democrats believe “McCarthy was merely attempting to stoke fear” in an article titled “Democrats blast Kevin McCarthy for claim terrorists are crossing southern border.”
Vox said the quiet part out loud in an article titled “Republicans revive one of Trump’s most notorious immigration lies: They’re attacking Biden with fact-free claims about terrorsists crossing the southern border.”
“Most notorious immigration lies.”
“Attacking Biden.”
“Fact-free claims.”
Wow, that’s quite the scathing indictment of McCarthy.
Essentially, the narrative was that this is just another conservative conspiracy theory aimed at undermining Biden Administration progress and that these House Republicans are idiots.
Then BAM! Plot twist.
McCarthy was right. He was completely right. Everything he said was entirely accurate.
Axios published a report that four people have been arrested on the southern border since October 1, three from Yemen and one from Serbia, all of whom matched names on the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Database.
Oh for real? You mean to tell me that there really are opportunistic terrorists who might take advantage of every opportunity to gain entrance into a country that many enemies would love to tear apart? What a shock. And if 4 of them have been arrested, and we now have an overwhelmed and disorganized open border policy, how many more are slipping through without being arrested?
This information comes directly from the Customs and Border Protection agency, who confirmed it today to Congress.
And now we’re watching mainstream news outlets eat crow for mocking and blasting McCarthy as a fear mongering liar when his information was entirely accurate. Imagine if those news outlets had actually followed up and investigated those claims instead of dismissing them as ridiculous partisan lies and writing a story about House Democrats mocking McCarthy. Imagine if they had put forth the effort to verify the information about terrorists at the border. Just imagine that.
And this news media debacle comes on the heels of a massive admission by The Washington Post that they published incredibly damaging misinformation that directly impacted the presidential election.
If all it takes is a little added paragraph with an insincere mea culpa and everyone just moves on, what’s to stop the massive and powerful media machine from doing it again? What incentive is there to investigate and verify claims before publishing? What deterrent is there to simply publishing what you think is best and then apologizing later if you get caught in the wrong?
At what point do we actually hold the mainstream media accountable for misinformation, whether intentional or unintentional?
