Data Reveals Difference In Mainstream Media Coverage Of Cuomo’s Nursing Home Deaths Versus Sexual Harassment Accusations

It’s no secret that mainstream media prefers to spend a lot of time on certain narratives and stories, and prefers to ignore certain other stories and narratives. These Cuomo scandals are a prime example of this fact.

First it was 15,000 dead New Yorkers because of an antiscientific and poor judgement policy. But that wasn’t a big deal. It was mostly ignored or dismissed, except by conservative media.

Then it was also a massive cover-up scheme to prevent the federal government and the American people from knowing about the 15,000 nursing home deaths. Again, it wasn’t a big deal. It was a “fringe conspiracy theory” being perpetuated by conservative media to smear the beloved and illustrious American leader, Governor Cuomo.

Then it was a sexual harassment accusation. But just one accusation wasn’t enough.

So then it was two accusations.

Then three. Some said that if there was a fourth, they’d at least call for his resignation.

Then came accusers number four and five. And sure enough, people called for his resignation.

Then came a sixth accusation, and this time there was a police report.

Despite maintaining that he “never touched anyone inappropriately” and “never made any inappropriate advances,” police say that the alleged groping incident at the executive mansion could be criminal behavior, and although they have not opened an official investigation, a report was filed regarding the incident.

The victim alleges that she was summoned to the executive mansion by Governor Cuomo, where he then “aggressively groped” her. According to the story originally reported by the Times Union, Cuomo called the female aide to the mansion “under the apparent pretext of having her assist the governor with a minor technical issue involving his mobile phone.” Once Cuomo had the woman alone in his private residence, he closed the door and reached under her shirt and began to fondle her.

Y’all remember how fast Pepe Le Pew was just cancelled for closing the door to prevent a woman from escaping and then forcibly touching/kissing the woman? Well, this is an actual human man, not a cartoon character, and he’s the Democrat Governor of New York, so the media and leftist allies give him all the passes.

And when I say they give him all the passes, it’s not just me saying that. It’s the data.

On the evening after the news broke about the sixth accuser, there was an astounding national news television blackout. Fox News addressed the accusations, but CNN and MSNBC didn’t even mention Cuomo a single time that evening, despite major new developments in the story. Transcripts show that MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow hasn’t even mentioned Gov. Cuomo once in the past 10 weeks despite multiple major scandals, and plenty of positive air time over the last year.

But do you remember how much time they spent praising Governor Cuomo over the last year? They had him on their shows and lauded him as America’s Governor and an example of real leadership.

Newsbusters and the Media Research Center did some digging for us, so let’s go back over the timeline and look at the numbers.

The Media Research Center determined that in 2020, there were 401 references to Governor Cuomo in mainstream news channel evening newscasts. They absolutely loved the man.

But there were only two mention of the nursing home death scandal, amounting to less than a single cumulative minute. That’s because, while conservative media was sounding alarm bells about the inconsistencies and discrepancies with the nursing home story, the mainstream liberal media was busy fawning over “America’s Governor.”

Then, in January and February, despite very clear evidence of the reality and details surrounding the nursing home death scandal and subsequent coverup, those same news channels racked up less than 11 cumulative additional minutes on the subject.

Then came the first harassment accusation on February 28, and the nursing home story all but disappeared, adding only another 34 seconds of coverage during that next week despite major developments to both stories like Cuomo being stripped of his emergency powers and the New York Times report about Cuomo intentionally doctoring state nursing home death toll reports. Interestingly, the media had already completely ignored the initial accusation by former staffer Lindsey Boylan from December 13, 2020.

While both stories were damaging to the Governor, the sexual harassment stories were far less damaging to both the overall liberal Covid narrative and the mainstream media figures who had fawned over him for months. So that’s the story they focused on.

Overall, in 10 months, the mainstream national news channels dedicated a mere 15 minutes and 35 seconds to the nursing home scandal, compared with 44 minutes and 14 seconds dedicated to the Harassment accusations in just 11 days. And even then, as more accusers came forward, the media didn’t even cover it.

If you do some rough math, that means that they spent roughly 75 times as much airtime covering the sexual harassment scandal than they spent covering the 15,000 death nursing home scandal. An average of about 241 seconds per day on the sexual harassment accusations compared to an average of about 3 seconds per day day on the nursing home death scandal. And the most hilarious part is that they spent far more air time than this covering the accusation made against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2018.

So when people exasperatedly ask me if I really believe that the mainstream media is biased, I confidently respond that they are certainly narrative-driven, and data analysis supports this fact.
