The coach who attacked the kid has been identified at Gerrel Williams — who actually worked for a Sheriff’s Dept. in Georgia.
Law enforcement tells TMZ Sports … the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office in Florida investigated Williams for possible child abuse after someone sent them video of the Dec. 7 incident.
Investigators noted the violence in the video and ultimately made contact with the victim’s mother … but she made it clear she did NOT want to press charges against the coach.
That doesn’t mean he’s off the hook — it’s possible prosecutors can move forward with charges and use the video evidence. But, it’s much tougher to get a conviction without a cooperating victim.
Gerrel Williams worked for a Georgia Sheriff’s Department as a counselor in the detention center. After seeing the video, they fired Williams. That seems to be the right call as this man appears to have a wicked temper. He should not be a counselor, but rather, be in counseling.
Williams has also has been banned from the American Youth Football league.
We spoke with AYF Executive Vice President Adam Laufer who tells us, “We are of course beyond disappointed in the coach’s actions, which are wholly inconsistent with the fundamental value of youth sports.”
“The coach has been banned indefinitely from all future AYF events and activities.”
As a mother, I cannot fathom why the mom does not want to press charges. Other than the fear of retribution, I cannot think of any reason to let this scumbag get away with this. Maybe she knows the man well and truly finds this out of character and has forgiven him.
Williams did apologize for his behavior.
”I’m not gonna make no excuses for what I did. I was wrong. I shouldn’t have disciplined him in public. I should have wait until we got back for doing what he did…At the end of the day, I apologized to him, the kids, the city”. Williams went on to say both the child and his parents have forgiven him.

What I saw in that video was not “discipline.” That was a grown a$$ man acting in a fit of rage over a little kids’ football game.
Inexcusable. Florida should prosecute him even without the parents’ cooperation.
