List Of Governors And Mayors Who Have Broken Covid Rules

There’s enough liberal hypocrisy to fill a book. Especially recently as Democrat leaders are imposing COVID restrictions, which they promptly disregard. Turns out Newsweek actually did write an article compiling the hypocrisy of Governors and Mayors during COVID, and I’m only sad that the scope had to be so narrow. Here are some highlights with plenty of context.

Austin Democrat Mayor, Steve Adler:

Urged Texans to stay home, saying,

“We need to stay home if you can,” he said in the video. “This is not the time to relax. We are going to be looking really closely. … We may have to close things down if we are not careful.”

He then hosted a wedding and “boarded a private jet with several others in early November to vacation for a week at a family timeshare in Cabo San Lucas.”

Of course now that he’s been caught, he deeply regrets his actions.

Denver Democrat Mayor, Michael Hancock:

Mayor Hancock warned Denver citizens,

“Pass the potatoes, not COVID… Avoid travel.”

He literally posted this “as he sat in an airport en route to a family get-together in Mississippi.”

Don’t worry, he added, “avoid travel, if you can,” “stay home as much as you can,” and “host virtual gatherings instead of in-person dinners.”

Then he boarded his plane to travel to an in-person Thanksgiving gathering on the other side of the country.

It’s easier to ask forgiveness than permission, so Hancock apologized saying,

“I made my decision as a husband and father, and for those who are angry and disappointed, I humbly ask you to forgive decisions that are borne of my heart and not my head.”

He said it was a decision between him flying to visit family or him flying family in to visit him.

“For my family that means cancelling our traditional gathering of our extended family.”

Well, yeah, that’s literally what you’re telling your constituents to do. That’s literally it. Cancel traditional family gatherings because…COVID. That includes you, Mayor Hancock.

California Democrat Governor, Gavin Newsom:

Newsom and a couple of state health officials gathered at a swanky restaurant to wine and dine in luxury with his friends, while simultaneously restricting California gatherings to fewer than three households, outside, with masks, for less than two hours. He broke all those rules for a birthday party at $450 per plate.

I guess Newsom used his judgment to make an informed decision about the situation. Wish he would afford Californians the same opportunity.

Washington D.C. Democrat Mayor, Muriel Bowser:

Last month, Mayor Bowser traveled to Delaware to attend a celebration for presumptive President-elect Joe Biden. Which is funny because she has put quarantine restrictions on anyone coming into Washington from a state that she considers “high risk” due to coronavirus. Guess what state was on that “high risk” list? Yep. Delaware.

But guess what. She refused to quarantine because she said her celebratory trip was “essential travel.” It was essential for her to be there to celebrate her candidate. And you see, because it was essential travel, COVID somehow knew not to infect her, so she apparently didn’t need to quarantine. Because the virus is woke, don’t you know. It would have known if she was there for nonessential travel.

San Jose Democrat Mayor, Sam Liccardo:

Mayor Liccardo is the Mayor. He’s in charge of San Jose. But he pulled a Nancy Pelosi and said he didn’t know that his Thanksgiving gathering violated state rules.

How, exactly, does the Mayor of San Jose not know his own state’s COVID restrictions? I mean, I know them and I don’t even live in California. They were kind of a big deal and made the news across the country. But alas, he gave this statement to local news:

“I should have known that there was a prohibition on more than three households. What I learned really, literally, the day before I released the public statement, and what I should have known was that, that prohibition was not merely a recommendation, it was a prohibition. And so that’s on me.”

It kind of makes you wonder what else the Mayor doesn’t know. Or maybe he did know and sort of took a page out of Newsom’s book to beg forgiveness rather than ask permission.

Chicago Democrat Mayor, Lori Lightfoot:

Remember that time when she placed heavy restrictions on the police and let the looters and rioters destroy and burn her city, but then specifically tasked police officers to guard her home from those same rioters and looters? Yeah, well that hypocrisy doesn’t make the cut because it wasn’t specifically about COVID.

But what she did do was pull a Nancy Pelosi and got a professional haircut. While salons were all shutting down under a state stay-at-home order. She had previously stated that “getting your roots done isn’t essential.” But don’t worry, the rules don’t apply to her, so she went in and got a professional trim.

“I’m in the public every day. And candidly, my hair was not looking the way it did. I thought maybe I’d do it myself, but I knew that would be disaster.”

Apparently, she could break the rules because she needed it more than most people because she’s “in the public” and her hair “was not looking the way it did.” Yeah, that’s what tens of thousands of people have been saying for months about their hair, much to the dismay of countless bankrupt stylists and salons. Oh, but the woman who cut her hair wore a mask. Wouldn’t it be super great if Democrat leaders afforded Americans the opportunity to make their own decisions based on available information and individual circumstances the same way Democrat leaders themselves do? That would be super great, almost like we were citizens in a free country.

New York Democrat Governor, Andrew Cuomo:

Governor Cuomo didn’t actually break the rules, but he intended to. The only reason he didn’t is that he forgot the forgiveness vs permission rule.

Before Thanksgiving, Cuomo warned New Yorkers that family gatherings are dangerous and should be avoided. He placed strict restrictions on family gatherings and encouraged neighbors to call the police if they spotted violations. Then he went on the radio and said, “My mom is going to come up and two of my girls.” Somehow he missed the memo that the elderly in New York tend to die from Covid. Not sure how he missed it because it was his nursing home order that killed thousands of New York’s elderly, but he still thought it was a good idea to bring his 89-year-old mother and out-of-town daughters to gather in his home for Thanksgiving, even while encouraging New Yorkers not to do that. People freaked and Cuomo apparently canceled those plans.

But beyond that hypocrisy, Gov. Cuomo was pretty upset that most of the police in the state refused to enforce his ridiculous Thanksgiving mandates.

Not sure why he’s surprised about that after he has supported the “defund” movement and contributed to the hostility toward police in New York. Turns out, even when the police are fully funded and supported, they still prefer to respond to actual crimes or emergencies rather than wasting time and resources on nosy neighbors.

There are so many more names that we could add to this list if it wasn’t specific to Governors, Mayors, and COVID. But these are definitely a good start. My question is, do the people being governed by these leaders care enough to vote them out? Or will they continue to allow themselves to be governed by hypocrites?
