So, as you probably know, Daisy and I have a radio show on 93WIBC in Indianapolis, IN. Theoretically speaking, we are professional radio broadcasters, even though when I type that out loud it makes me giggle, because we have never FELT like professional radio broadcasters. I totally suffer from Imposter Syndrome, where on a daily basis I fear that at some point, our Program Director is going to realize that we aren’t really professional broadcasters and replace us with someone way more broadcasty and serious and newsy and important.
Not that we don’t TRY really hard, mind you. We actually put a lot of thought and effort into our shows, but the fact remains – this is basically the funnest job ever and I’m kind of in a perpetual state of amazement that we get to do it professionally.
Most days, I’d say we have a well balanced show – some newsy stories, some silly stories – and lots of good commentary sprinkled throughout. In each segment, we always have a plan of what stories we’ll cover. But every now and then, something will happen that COMPLETELY DERAILS that plan.
Like today, for instance. Today, I completely lost it. I laugh a lot on the show, most of the time because Daisy has said something hilarious, but usually I can gather my composure and move on with the topic. Today? Today, I couldn’t. It was too much. And so if we get called into the Exec Producer’s office tomorrow, and are asked to never return again, I’m pretty sure it’ll be because of this segment (or combo of segments, rather).
But you know what? It was worth it. I have never had as much fun at work as I did today – and I HAVE A LOT OF FUN AT WORK.
Hope you enjoy it. And I still have no idea if Daisy was punking me or not.
