Does the name United States of America mean anything anymore? The NFL has announced they will be playing the so-called black national anthem at each season opener this year.
Did you even know there was even such a thing as a black national anthem? What percentage of black people do you think could name the black national anthem? I’m guessing it is not a large amount. But I’m learning so much this year. First Juneteenth, now this whole black anthem thing. Isn’t 2020 so exciting?

The NFL will play “Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing,” commonly known as the black national anthem, before every season opener, Jason Reid of ESPN reports.
Stadiums will have someone perform “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” before “The Star-Spangled Banner,” according to Reid.
Some players, as well as Texans coach Bill O’Brien, already have committed to kneeling for the national anthem.
The NFL is considering other measures to recognize victims of police brutality during the upcoming season, per Reid. The proposals include listing the names of victims on uniforms through helmet decals or jersey patches, an idea that would come in collaboration with the NFL Players Association.
It is a very fine song. Beyonce sung it beautifully, but it is not our national anthem.
The NFL powers that be need to read and familiarize themselves with the Pledge of Allegiance. I know that the Pledge is so out of fashion. I. Don’t. Care.
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Notice…we are ONE NATION. INDIVISIBLE. It sure doesn’t feel that way, does it? We cannot be one nation and indivisible, and yet maintain different national anthems for different race groups. That will not unite us. It only divides us more.
Is there always liberty and justice for all? No. We will never reach perfection. No nation will. But we continually strive for liberty and justice for all.
I didn’t know there were two national anthems— a white and black national anthem. No matter. The NFL can screw itself.https://t.co/KUnUdEsHIH

There is zero chance I am watching NFL this year. It’s sad, as I’m a huge Chicago Bears fan. But I will not be able to stomach players standing for the “black national anthem” and sitting for the Star-Spangled Banner. Thankfully COVID-19 has prepared me for zero sports. I’ve adjusted and am already used to it. I really don’t miss it that much.
Will YOU be watching the NFL this year?
Here are the lyrics to the “black” national anthem:
Lift ev’ry voice and sing
‘Til earth and heaven ring
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the list’ning skies
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun
Let us march on ’til victory is won
Stony the road we trod
Bitter the chastening rod
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died
Yet with a steady beat
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered
Out from the gloomy past
‘Til now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast
God of our weary years
God of our silent tears
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way
Thou who has by Thy might
Led us into the light
Keep us forever in the path, we pray
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee
Shadowed beneath Thy hand
May we forever stand
True to our God
True to our native land
