Popular Nickelodeon JR Kids Show Featuring Police Targeted By Cancel Culture

Okay, that is it! People aligned with and sympathetic to the Black Lives Matter movement have crossed the line. According to Breitbart and Fox News, they are now targeting a children’s show for cancellation: Paw Patrol. Some people truly have too much time on their hands.

The show features dogs who are part of the same rescue team and play a variety of emergency services roles. Rocky is the recycling dog, Rubble is in construction, and Marshall is the fire dog. The “problem” character is Chase the police dog.

The Paw Patrol is an absolute favorite of my three young kids. My husband and I have invested a lot of money on Paw Patrol paraphernalia. My daughter was so bored in the beginning weeks of quarantine that she actually charted her Paw Patrol toys. We have some devoted fans here y’all.

Bowing at the altar of the left-wing BLM movement did not win the Paw Patrol any fans.

[L]ast week, when the show’s official Twitter account put out a bland call for “Black voices to be heard,” commenters came after Chase. “Euthanize the police dog,” they said. “Defund the paw patrol.” “All dogs go to heaven, except the class traitors in the Paw Patrol.”

As the protests against racist police violence enter their third week, the charges are mounting against fictional cops, too. Even big-hearted cartoon police dogs — or maybe especially big-hearted cartoon police dogs — are on notice. The effort to publicize police brutality also means banishing the good-cop archetype, which reigns on both television and in viral videos of the protests themselves. “Paw Patrol” seems harmless enough, and that’s the point: The movement rests on understanding that cops do plenty of harm.

Cops can dance, they can hug, they can kneel on the ground, but their individual acts of kindness can no longer obscure the violence of a system. The good-cop act is wearing thin.

The basis for The New York Times claiming Paw Patrol is now a target appears to be based on the comments on Paw Patrol’s Twitter feed.

A piece from The New York Times sparked wild reactions on social media over the writer’s apparent outrage at the Nickelodeon cartoon series “Paw Patrol” amid the fallout of the death of George Floyd.

Times critic Amanda Hess penned a piece on Wednesday titled, “The Protests Come for ‘Paw Patrol,'” and the criticism that the popular children’s show has faced in recent days for its main character Chase, a German shepherd police dog, and how that and other shows are deemed “copaganda” for portraying the police in a positive light.

Hess then pointed to the responses to a tweet the show had posted, expressing solidarity toward the Black Lives Matter movement and calling for “Black voices to be heard.”

Here’s a sampling of the insanity of the #WOKE folk offended by the Paw Patrol.

Perhaps naming your main character police dog “chase” is a bit tone deaf to the suffering of people who have actually been on the receiving end of dogs used as weapons by the police. My 3 year old calls his stuffed Chase “Jace”.
