Woman Placed On Leave And Loses Her Dog After Calling the Police On Man Over Dog Leash Dispute

The Blaze is reporting on a video that has gone viral on social media. The video shows a white woman, Amy Cooper, in Central Park calling police on a black man, Christian Cooper. The confrontation began after Mr. Cooper reportedly asked Ms. Cooper to leash her dog in compliance with the park rules.

Amy Cooper called police and became increasingly frenzied as the call goes went on.

Ms. Cooper, who is a VP of Investment Solutions, is paying BIG TIME.

She has been placed on leave from her employer, Franklin Templeton, and has lost the dog in question.

Online sleuths went to work and began to pummel Franklin Templeton over a rumor that the woman worked for the investment firm.

The company said they were investigating the matter and placed the employee in question on leave.

“We take these matters very seriously, and we do not condone racism of any kind. While we are in the process of investigating the situation, the employee involved has been put on administrative leave,” the statement read.

Another organization, Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue, indicated in a statement that the dog in question had been surrendered back to their care after they were bombarded with online complaints about its treatment.

“As of this evening, the owner has voluntarily surrendered the dog in question to our rescue while this matter is being addressed,” their officials social media account read.

Ms. Cooper’s behavior, from the very beginning of the video, is completely hysterical. The man, in contrast, is very calm.

If I were being threatened by a man, as Ms. Cooper claimed, I certainly would not approach him. I would be backing away and doing everything I could to leave the area. The phone call to the police would also be made without warning. Ms. Cooper was really using the man’s race in order to intimidate him. She really laid it on thick on the phone call, heavily emphasizing the man’s race.

And can we talk about the dog?! At one point, the poor dog was lifted off the ground by the collar!

The confrontation ended when the woman finally leashed her dog. Both parties were gone from the area by the time police arrived.

Amy Cooper has issued a statement in which she apologizes.

Monday night, Amy Cooper spoke to NBC New York, and apologized.

“I sincerely and humbly apologize to everyone, especially to that man, his family,” Amy Cooper told the station via phone. “It was unacceptable and I humbly and fully apologize to everyone who’s seen that video, everyone that’s been offended…everyone who thinks of me in a lower light and I understand why they do.”

“When I think about the police, I’m such a blessed person. I’ve come to realize especially today that I think of [the police] as a protection agency, and unfortunately, this has caused me to realize that there are so many people in this country that don’t have that luxury,” she added.

Christian Cooper is a graduate of Harvard and is currently the senior biomedical editor at Health Science Communications. He previously worked as an editor at Marvel Comics, where he introduced the first gay male character in a Star Trek comic, Yoshi Mishima. He is an avid birdwatcher and was president of the Harvard Ornithological Club in the 1980s, according to Wikipedia.

NEW DEVELOPMENT

Since social media blew up and piled on Amy Cooper, a new development has occurred. Christian Cooper himself made a Facebook post in which he related what happened prior to the video starting.

This puts the whole exchange into a much different perspective. He’s not quite the angel or completely innocent victim he’s been portrayed to be. In fact, he was a confrontational jerk. The fact that he walks around with treats “for such intransigence” tells you everything you need to know about Mr. Cooper.

I’d get all riled up if someone threatened my dog. I’d be worried the person either has poisonous “treats” or is just trying to take my dog.

They are both reprehensible. She should have had her dog on a leash. He shouldn’t have threatened her and stirred up trouble. Still, she should have just defused the situation by leashing up her dog and walking away.

Everyone just needs to be kind and CALM DOWN. The sad thing is, she’ll likely lose her job and not get the dog back. It’s doubtful Mr. Cooper will face any real consequences for his bad behavior.
