Keep in mind, before you read this story, that all over the country Actual Criminals are being released from prison so that they don’t get coronavirus. Seven high risk sex offenders were released from an Orange County Jail recently. In LA, one dude was arrested THREE TIMES IN ONE DAY, because of the dumbass rules they have there about booking people into prison. There are literally LEGIT CRIMINALS on the streets, so that’s something to keep in mind when you read the story about Texas salon owner Shelley Luther.
Shelley Luther owns a hair salon in Dallas and decided that because she and the other stylists working for her couldn’t wait any longer for the stay-at-home order to be lifted this Friday, and opened 7 days early. She and the other stylists literally had no way of feeding their families except to open back up, which is, of course, a painful situation facing millions of Americans right now.
She opened 7 days early. That was her crime. So, she and her business were being fined $500 a day, and the judge in her case, Judge Moye, said the fines would continue until Friday. Last week, a cease-and-desist letter was sent to her demanding that she close, which she very publicly ripped up. In court yesterday, Moye told her he’d only fine her $7000 and NOT send her to jail if she apologized for violating the stay-at-home order.
Her response?
“I have much respect for this court and laws. I have never been in this position before and it’s not someplace that I want to be. But I have to disagree with you sir, when you say that I’m selfish because feeding my kids — is not selfish. I have hair stylists that are going hungry because they’d rather feed their kids. So sir, if you think the law is more important than kids getting fed, then please go ahead with you decision but I am not going to shut the salon.”
And off to jail she went. Watch:
This is absolutely insane. Ted Cruz agrees.
7 days in jail for cutting hair?? This is NUTS. And government officials don’t get to order citizens to apologize to them for daring to earn a living. https://t.co/3rulRlN0gE

This madness HAS GOT TO STOP.
