Andrew Cuomo is the Governor of New York, and Chris Cuomo is an anchor for CNN.
NY Governor Andrew Cuomo came on CNN to talk with his brother Chris about coronavirus and how that is going to affect New Yorkers. He wanted to clarify the curfew and other things that are going into effect in New York. New York has been hit hard by the coronavirus. It is not surprising as it is one of the largest points of entry into the United States, and New York City has a dense population.
It is not every day that I enjoy an interview on CNN. Today I had the pleasure of enjoying Dana Bash praise the President and watching a little sibling rivalry between the Cuomo brothers.
Andrew: “I don’t like the word curfew. Dad tried to have a curfew for me, and I never got past the resentment.”
Chris: “That was the least of your problems, your problems with the curfew, just so you know.”
Andrew: “Well, I never violated — you violated the curfew all the time. Caused much pain, but that’s a different story.”
Chris: “I don’t believe in rules. Gov. Andrew Cuomo, I appreciate you coming on the show. I love you. I’m proud of what you’re doing, I know you’re working hard for your state. But no matter how hard you’re working, there’s always time to call mom. She wants to hear from you. Just so you know.”
Andrew: “I called mom.”
Chris: “That’s not what she said.”
Andrew: “I called mom just before I came on this show. By the way, she said I was her favorite. Good news is she said you are her second favorite. Second favorite son, Christopher.”
Chris: “We both know neither of us are mom’s first or second favorite in the family. I can’t believe you’re lying to my audience. You’ve blown the credibility of the entire interview.”
I could be completely snarky and talk about how refreshing it is to hear a liberal hack admit he “doesn’t believe in rules,” or how his show lost all “credibility” a long time ago, but I won’t.
These moments on TV where we see our opponents as real people help heal America. It is very sweet when the brothers talk about who is mom’s favorite and mom said to call her. I can hate the politics of both men while also understanding that it is beautiful to see the love between brothers.
