March 18, 2020Joe Biden won both Florida and Illinois today.
Are we shocked that Biden won Florida?
No, not at all. The Democrats were going to campaign hard for Biden and push Democrat voters out of the Bernie camp and into Biden’s, especially in the Midwest states like Illinois.
What does this mean for Bernie Sanders?
It means that Florida residents do not like policies that are steeped in socialism. Florida is made up of a large number of Hispanic/Latino voters.
Most of the Florida residences are asylum seekers from places like Venezuela or Cuba and have lived through the reality of socialism and do not want to experience that ever again.
It also means that Bernie Sanders lost out on 219 delegates from Florida and 155 delegates from Illinois.
Biden has 1,121 delegates, and Sanders has 839. The first one to earn 1,991 delegates wins the nomination.
I also love that amid the turmoil our country is facing, we can still show the world that Democracy always wins.
