The Republican Mayor of Sterling Heights, Michigan, Michael Taylor, is endorsing Joe Biden for President. Taylor voted for Donald Trump in 2016.
"I think Joe Biden is the candidate who can unify all of the Democrats, and he’s the candidate who can appeal to moderates and Republicans like me who don’t want to see four more years of President Trump". #MichiganPrimary#Biden2020 https://t.co/iX6t4Udf1O

“Since announcing my endorsement of Joe Biden I have received an outpouring of encouraging messages and believe even more strongly that Joe Biden is the candidate who can defeat Donald Trump in Macomb County and the State of Michigan,” Taylor said in a statement to Newsweek on Monday.
While Taylor, a life-long Republican, voted for President Donald Trump in 2016, he said he would cast his ballot for Biden this year because Trump is “deranged.”
“I think Joe Biden is the candidate who can unify all of the Democrats and he’s the candidate who can appeal to moderates and Republicans like me who don’t want to see four more years of President Trump,” Taylor said, according to the Chicago Tribune on Monday.
“I remember thinking this Trump thing is insane, but when it was down to him and Hillary, I kind of said, ‘Well, you are a Republican, and yeah he’s nuts, but maybe he’ll get better and you know he’s going to lower taxes,” Taylor said. “I slowly talked myself into it. ‘He can’t seriously be this deranged once he gets in there,’ and he’s even more deranged now than I thought then. So, I take the blame. I voted for him.”
Taylor’s county voted for Trump in 2016 by a margin of 54-42. Might I point out that Donald Trump did lower taxes. It’s understandable to not like his personality and the way he goes about things, but he has advanced GOP principles. He has cut taxes, strengthened the military, and appointed pro-life judges and supreme court justices. How does all of this not matter to someone who claims to be a Republican? How do you turn around and support someone who will restrict 2A rights, raise taxes, increase abortion, and weaken our military? This does not compute.
How could I look at those three kids and tell them I'm proud to support Donald Trump? I can't. I won't. I'm voting for @JoeBiden tomorrow and endorsing him for President of the United States. I hope you'll join me. #Biden2020#MichiganPrimary https://t.co/GIA3PT5DNS

I have no problem proudly telling my kids I support President Trump. If only for the fact that Trump is fighting to protect the unborn and Biden and his party would allow for babies to be killed up until the moment of birth. That is reason enough to proudly be a Republican.
In taking a gander at Taylor’s Twitter feed, I question his declaration that he is a Republican. In many posts he praises extreme leftist Pete Buttigieg. He was pro-impeachment. He tweeted out “Respect” for Colin Kaepernick! He said he believed Christine Blasey Ford in the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings (he also somehow believed Kavanaugh). Finally, he called Lebron James a better role model for his sons than Donald Trump. Sorry, neither one of those people will be role models to my kids. But if I had to pick one, it wouldn’t be Lebron.
Taylor seems like an attention-hungry politician who is just trying to advance his future political prospects. I bet it won’t be too long before we see a news story that Taylor is switching to the Democratic party. And I’ll say, good riddance, we don’t need “Republicans” like him.
