People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is upset about the treatment of animals in U.S. Marines jungle surviving training.
It’s like FEAR FACTOR – USMC Edition!
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, is objecting to a video showing US Marines eating live scorpions and drinking cobra blood, and they demand vegan or virtual reality alternatives.
The video shows marines participating in the Cobra Gold exercise co-sponsored by the US and Thailand, where they are taught skills to survive in the jungle.
In the more graphic parts of the video, a trainer is shown devouring a live scorpion, and helping marines drink the blood of a snake.
In a statement, PETA Vice President Shalin Gala said, “The photos showing giddy Marines swallowing scorpions and guzzling cobra blood are more reminiscent of a frat party gone wrong than a military drill”.
Is this gross? Heck yeah! But it seems we can all agree it is a necessity that servicemembers learn food survival tactics.
I think they could read and learn about what things they can eat in certain environments to survive, without actually practicing eating them. That does seem a tad unnecessary.
Having said that, am I outraged about this? NO. From the video, it seems like the Marines are enjoying this exercise and building camaraderie.
Bottom line, these are scorpions and snakes, so I really don’t care. Find something else to complain about PETA.
