There HAS to be more to this story, in regards to evidence, mens rea, or even drug/alcohol consumption.
Two St. Louis police officers, one on duty and one off duty, decided to play Russian roulette with a loaded gun, taking turns pulling the trigger. The gun had one bullet placed inside the revolver, where Hendren started the game and pulled the first trigger that resulted in the gun not firing.
At first, Hendren had the gun pointed at a wall. When it came time for Alix’s turn, she pointed the gun directly at Hendren, pulled the trigger, and it didn’t discharge. So, as a supposed competitive nature would predict, Hendren followed up on his turn by pointing the gun at Alix’s chest, which resulted in her death.
According to The Daily Wire–
Former St. Louis police officer Nathaniel Hendren, 30, has pleaded guilty to first-degree involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action after fatally shooting fellow officer Katlyn Alix while playing a game of Russian roulette.
New York Times reported:
Hendren will be facing ten years in prison for first-degree involuntary manslaughter and one count of armed criminal action. Mr. Hendren was sentenced to seven years on the manslaughter charge and three years, to be served concurrently, on the second charge.
Apparently, it is reported that another officer was present while the two were playing Russian roulette but decided to leave once the shenanigans started to get out of hand. According to CNN, this officer was Hendren’s partner and attempted to warn the two about the repercussions of their actions.
This doesn’t seem like compelling information at first … until you find out from Fox News that Hendren shared a conversation with his supervisor, where he stated:
“He did not try and kill the victim because he was in love with her and they were in an intimate relationship and were planning on moving into his apartment.”
Now, back to why I said there must be more to this story…
I thought the officer warning the two about the dangers of Russian roulette was his partner?
If you take a gander at Hendren’s mug shot, you’ll notice he has a black eye. I can’t depict just how fresh this black eye is, as I am no black eye aficionado, but some things just aren’t adding up and it’s easy to assume there are some cover-ups taking place.
Why were authorities so quick to label the incident as an accident?
Why weren’t blood tests taken to evaluate what was in their systems that night to understand the state of the officers?
As The Daily Wire reported:
At the time of the incident, prosecutors suspected that drugs or alcohol may have been involved, and were critical of the police department after they refused to take a blood test of the two surviving officers who were at the apartment the night Alix died.
Prosecutor Kim Gardner also criticized the police department’s investigation tactics, including the department’s decision to conduct breathalyzer tests and urine samples, which are less precise than blood samples, under Garrity Rights, which protect public employees from self-incrimination during the course of an employer investigation.
I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS. But we’re just left to speculate.
What do you guys think?!
