February 27, 2009. That’s when this website launched, and the Chicks on the Right brand was born.
So much has changed since then! Back then, we were in corporate jobs, my now 14 year old was just 3, Daisy hadn’t even had her daughter yet, we’d only known each other for about 6 months, and we had no idea what was in store for us. We just knew we wanted to start a website where we could talk about what was going on in the world and appeal to other like-minded folks who might appreciate our conversational style.
Fast forward to today? We’re full time radio broadcasters (WHAT?!?!?!), weekly podcasters, website owners, social media content creators, and we’re in sort of a perpetual state of wonder that this is the turn our lives took. It’s a far cry from the world of corporate human resources and medical writing. And it’s a whole lot more fun. 🙂
Anyway, to celebrate our 11 years (and by the way, this day isn’t to be confused with Nov 3, which is an arbitrarily chosen National Chicks on the Right Day that we literally made up), I thought it’d be fun to revisit some of our favorite videos that span across our years together. Starting with the very first one:
Fast forward to right after the election of 2012.
We had our very first ever meet and greet in the fall of 2012, and then a few months after that, we were TRAILBLAZERS by being the first website of any prominence to get blocked on Facebook. Which prompted this:
After we started working at the radio station, we did produced videos with some regularity, including this one:
Then came the book deal! Our first and last book was published in October of 2014, and we were delighted with the reception it received.
Some of our favorite videos? The blooper reels:
There was that time when our videographer, Tyler, had us do the Try Not To Laugh Challenge:
Then there was that time we got VERY VERY VERY VERY UPSET about dogs.
There was the time we product tested a bunch of stuff from China:
There was also that time we decided to offer our own fashion line:
When we made the glorious switch from afternoon drive to mornings on the air, there was SO MUCH REACTION, you guys.
Are you guys watching these or are you sick of me posting them? Because I AM NOT DONE. And I’m not even posting all of my favorites because there are so many. Like this one:
Also HOW DARE YOU BODY SHAME THE KARDASHIANS YOU GUYS.
We shared our own experiences with #METOO.
There’s this anniversary video from two years ago:
And finally, last year’s DECADE celebration, in which we told our How We Met story:
By the way, that’s a massively abbreviated version of our story. For the full scoop, you’ll want to listen to this podcast episode:
Listen to “Ep. 22: The Story of Mock and Daisy – How it All Started” on Spreaker.
Anyway, it’s been an awesome run and I don’t ever want it to end! HAPPY CHICKSAVERSARY TO US! And to our current Chickterns, who bust their butts every day to bring you awesome fresh content, and of course, to you all, because without you, we wouldn’t be celebrating. YOU ARE THE BEST COMMUNITY EVER.
