We all know fake news is a big problem in this day and age. From only reporting stories that fit a specific narrative, to running cover for corrupt Democrats, to spreading misinformation, fake news pops up all over the place.
But don’t worry, guys. Brian Stelter is on the case.
That’s right, CNN’s Brian Stelter, host of Reliable Sources and professional weasel, is the executive producer of an upcoming HBO documentary titled After Truth: Disinformation and the Cost of Fake News.
Here’s the description from WarnerMedia, the parent company of both CNN and HBO:
In the age of social media, this eye-opening documentary examines the rising phenomenon of “fake news” in the U.S. and the impact that disinformation, conspiracy theories and false news stories have on the average citizen. The film focuses on several high-profile made-up news stories in recent years with real world consequences, including the infamous “Pizzagate” case, the disinformation campaigns that influenced the 2016 presidential election, the Jade Helm conspiracy, and others. Drawing from exclusive verite access and interviews with a variety of experts, as well as purveyors and targets of misinformation, the documentary sheds light on how post-truth culture has become an increasingly dangerous part of the global information environment. Directed by Andrew Rossi and executive produced by Brian Stelter.
I’m sure this documentary will be completely factual and in no way biased.
While there were some positive responses to the announcement, many on the internet were quick to point out the ridiculousness of Stelter’s involvement in an anti-fake news project:
Right. Brain Stelter’s track record when it comes to reporting fake news is far from squeaky clean. CNN’s overall record is even worse.
Yup.
Look, fake news and misinformation are obviously pervasive issues, both on social media and from the mainstream media. Maybe a documentary exploring the problem will be useful and eye-opening for the average American.
I just don’t think Brian freakin’ Stelter is the appropriate messenger.
Do you think this documentary will expose any fake news perpetrated by the left, or will it be all about fake news from right wing sources?
