Breitbart is reporting that two Republican Senators, David Perdue (GA) and Mike Lee (UT) have introduced legislation that would end the tax deduction for money spent on abortions.
There is a similar bill in the House that was introduced last summer by Arizona Republican Andy Biggs. Clearly that bill will go nowhere in the Democratic controlled House.
Currently, money spent on abortions is considered a “healthcare” expense.
Senator Mike Lee makes the following argument about taxpayer bankrolling of abortions as healthcare:
This undermines the truth that all human beings have dignity and worth, and that the purpose of healthcare is to heal and care for them – not kill them. Our bill would end the preferential tax treatment of abortion and clarify that this gruesome practice is not healthcare.
Planned Parenthood performed a record number of abortions last year, killing 345,672 babies. For this, they received $616.8 million from Americans.
This is just an atrocity and something the GOP should have taken care of when they had the House, Senate and White House in Trump’s first two years in office.
Since the GOP has been unable to end funding of Planned Parenthood, this would at least be a small step in the right direction.
