The Prime Minister has spoken publically for the first time since the news broke of the U.S. attack that killed Gen. Soleimani.
In the statement, Johnson has said,
“Today I have spoken with President Macron, President Trump and Chancellor Merkel and will be speaking with other leaders in the coming days. General Qasem Soleimani posed a threat to all our interests and was responsible for a pattern of disruptive, destabilizing behavior in the region.”
“Given the leading role he has played in actions that have led to the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians and western personnel, we will not lament his death. It is clear however that all calls for retaliation or reprisals will simply lead to more violence in the region and they are in no one’s interest.”
“We are in close contact with all sides to encourage de-escalation. I will be speaking to other leaders and our Iraqi friends to support peace and stability. The Foreign Secretary has been in constant contact with leaders and foreign ministers from across the globe and we have taken steps to increase the security of our personnel and interests in the region. Following further international engagement and ministerial meetings here in the UK, Parliament will be updated on Tuesday.”
Boris is calling for a de-escalation of force after tensions rose between Iran and the U.S. after Iran attacked multiple U.S. operations, and the U.S. responded in kind.
All the U.S. wants is for Iran to sit down, and stop bugging everyone! We are more than happy to de-escalate, but Iran has to stop targeting U.S. operations overseas.
Did you notice that Boris has not said explicitly that he is in contact with the Iranian government? My guess is that Boris Johnson knows that you can’t trust the Iranian government to stand true to their word. Soleimani was the mastermind of death behind 100’s if not 1000’s of acts of terrorism.
According to the BBC, back in July 2019 ”
Tensions between the UK and Iran flared up earlier this month when Royal Marines seized an Iranian tanker which was suspected of breaking EU sanctions.
The UK suspected Grace 1, detained on 4 July near Gibraltar, was carrying oil bound for Syria.
In response to the seizure, Iran threatened to seize a British oil tanker. On 9 July, the UK raised the threat to British shipping in Iranian waters in the Gulf to “critical” – the highest level.
A day later, Iranian boats attempted to impede a British oil tanker in the region, before being warned off by a Royal Navy ship, according to the Ministry of Defence. Iran denied any attempted seizure.”
Iran held a British ship hostage after the UK found out that Iran was selling oil to Syrian terrorist groups. British forces held the oil tanker prohibiting the sale, and Soleimani ordered the taking of British ships as retribution. Britain was weak and gave the oil back. The hostages were released, Tehran got their money, and terrorists got their oil.
We can not continue to negotiate with terrorists. It is unacceptable to assume that they will de-escalate without force. Nothing in their history shows we can trust their word.
We will not be handing terrorists any more money via secrete pallets of cash or massive oil tankers.
Peace through Strength. Not Peace through Cash.
