So, I have some strong feelings on this one, y’all, and I’m sure there’ll be folks who disagree, and that’s OK.
According to the sourcelink, Lucy Rose Jaine is a 29 year old mom of three in New Zealand. She paints houses, she’s into organic food, and she hunts wildlife that she then uses to feed her family.
I have absolutely zero problems with any of that.
Lucy, however, ALSO likes to post photos of herself with all the animals she’s killed. Now, I’m not a fan of that, because I love animals, and I don’t like it when they’re viewed as trophy kills. I have no problem whatsoever with animals being used for meat – don’t get me wrong. But taking gleeful photos holding them after you kill them? Gross. That’s just gross.
And yes – I feel the same about it when Donald Trump Jr. does it. I don’t like it. I don’t deny him or anyone else the right to hunt. Have at it. But I’m gonna think it’s gross when you pose for pictures with animals you’ve just killed, because that’s gross.
And there’s something even grosser about it when you basically turn it into an opportunity to show off your ass, like Lucy Jaine does.
Seriously?
It’s no wonder she gets comments like this:
Here’s another example:
“Freezing my ass off,” she wrote. YOU DON’T SAY.
Anyway, you get the idea. And listen – it’s not like Lucy is the first chick to want to show off her body on Instagram. She’s a beautiful girl with a beautiful body and I totally get why she wants everyone see it. But there’s a difference between a bikini shot and a bikini shot with dead animals in it.
Lucy defends her lifestyle as follows:
“The animals are living a good life. I don’t support factory farming and we prefer organic. It’s free, it’s fun and it helps the farmers. We gut, skin and clean the animals. Then we cut it up and pop it in the freezer to eat.
“The kids love the adventure. We don’t do screens in our family. Being in the wilderness so much really sparks their imaginations.
“The hardest thing is finding places to hunt but we are pretty lucky with farmers ringing us to help them with their pig problem and NZ does have a lot of public hunting land. It’s all about who you know really.”
It sounds amazing, really. No screens? Outdoors all the time? Teaching kids how to feed themselves? All great things. I’m just having a hard time understanding why posing in underwear with the dead animals is a thing.
Now, do I think she should get death threats as a result? Obviously not. You can disagree with someone’s choices without wishing death on them. And death threats are a pretty bizarre over-the-top response to someone’s photos. But the comments about looking like she’s making soft core porn while she hunts? I’m not surprised by them. And she really shouldn’t be either.
Granted, people can simply not follow her, and obviously I don’t. But now there’s been a news story about her, and so now I know about her, and now I can’t unsee the skanky photos of her smiling with dead animals.
This one? This one is the worst of the worst, even though she’s fully clothed:
The caption on that – “Nerves still a’twitching.” OMG. I get that you’re feeding your family but taking that much joy out of watching animal die is f*cking sick. Lucy said, “We make sure we respect the animal in the process.” Really? Because that isn’t respect, in my view. That’s just plain cruelty.
Again, I have no issue with people hunting. But if you’re a person who takes this much joy in watching an animal suffer, and you feel the need to pose happily with something you’ve just killed, that’s pretty wack. And I’m judging.
YMMV.
