Elizabeth Warren Wants Transgender Migrants to Get a Free Pass Into the US

Call me old fashioned, but I believe equal rights for all actually means EQUAL rights for all. Obviously, this is very passé among the leftist loons running for president, as Elizabeth Warren is (once again) all to eager to demonstrate with a letter she penned to the Department of Homeland Security and ICE.

Along with Senator Tammy Baldwin, Warren requested that transgender migrants not be detained at the border because of their vulnerability. The letter reads in part,

Around the world, transgender individuals face violence, harassment, and discrimination based on their gender identity and gender expression. They are often relegated to the fringes of society, denied basic rights and services and subject to heightened levels of persecution and violence. While in detention, transgender migrants and asylum seekers are particularly vulnerable to sexual harassment, discrimination, and abuse. The United States should protect individuals fleeing persecution and targeted violence, including persecution based on gender identity or expression—not subject them to further harm.

Of course, this is all Trump’s fault.

In January 2019, the Trump Administration implemented the so-called “Migrant Protection Protocols,” also known as the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which forces asylum seekers at the southern border back to Mexico to wait while their requests are processed. Even though the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has made clear that “individuals from vulnerable populations” may be exempted from the policy, transgender asylum seekers have nevertheless been forcibly returned to Mexico.

The Remain in Mexico policy is a bit fraught, and there’s certainly critiques to be made– for one, the humanitarian exemption is rarely executed even when, arguably, it should be. But sending people to Mexico while their documents are processed means they’re not in detainment facilities on the borders, so, pick a lane, Liz.

I don’t intend to imply that it’s not hard being a transgender migrant, and many of the statistics that Warren cites points to truly unacceptable  behavior. But to assert that they’re particularly vulnerable is just not accurate, and it’s pandering. What about children? What about pregnant women? What about the mentally and/or physically disabled? It’s intellectually dishonest to set a special precedent for trans individuals, but not any of these other groups.

Further, if transgenderism is as nebulous of an identity as we’re given to understand, and transgender migrants have an easier path to get into the United States, what’s going to stop literally any and every migrant at the border from claiming to be transgender? How do you intend to establish who is trans and who is opportunistic? If deciding whether someone “looks trans” or not is violent and discriminatory and medical records don’t exist, there’s nothing to fall back on other than the individual’s word. And people lie, like, all the time. Especially when the stakes are this high.

There’s no practical way to implement Warren’s demands. And, if I had to guess, I think she knows that. But she’s still getting points from the LGBTQ+ community, and when she inevitably fails to change anything she has “orange man bad” to fall back on. It’s a slam dunk of a ploy, I’ll give her that. But it’s not honest. She doesn’t care about trans migrants. She cares about her own polling numbers. That’s it.
