PSA: Don’t Force Your Dog To Be Vegan

A picture of a woman’s “politically involved” vegan dog has been making the rounds on Twitter this weekend.  As you might expect, the dog doesn’t look particularly happy or healthy:

This is animal abuse.  Dogs aren’t supposed to be political.  They’re dogs.  Also, they are a completely different species whose bodies are not designed to live without meat.

Luckily, Twitter largely sided with the dog, not its incompetent owner.

Suzannah responded to this one by helpfully pointing out that her dog willingly eats the vegan food.  Well, duh.  That’s the dog’s basic survival instincts – it’s either that or starve.  Put down a piece of meat and see if that dog makes its own choice not to eat it.

Bingo.  I’m a vegetarian, but I would never, ever, EVER make my dog follow my vegetarian diet.  She eats meat every day, even though I don’t.  And doesn’t she look much happier and healthier than Suzannah’s poor pooch?

This is peak leftism, folks: forcing another to live by your ideology.  It’s not compassionate, it’s not environmental, and it’s not right.  Don’t force your dog into veganism.
