NYC Outlaws Saying “Illegal Alien” Hatefully

It seems like we’ve been hearing a lot about California lately, with all its shining progressive policies of extortionate taxes and housing crises and sh*t on the streets. It might be the most ridiculous place to live– that is, if New York didn’t have anything to say about it.

The New York City Hall’s Commission on Human Rights released a 29-page directive for. . . equality? Prosperity? I’m not really sure what the goal is, but it includes fines up to a QUARTER. OF A MILLION. DOLLARS. for calling someone an illegal alien. But don’t worry, it’s not THAT insane– it’s only illegal if it’s said in a mean, feelings-hurty sort of way.

“‘Alien’ — used in many laws to refer to a ‘noncitizen’ person — is a term that may carry negative connotations and dehumanize immigrants, marking them as ‘other,’” reads one passage of the memo. “The use of certain language, including ‘illegal alien’ and ‘illegals,’ with the intent to demean, humiliate, or offend a person or persons constitutes discrimination.”

So, what, we’re policing intent now? Is the NYPD now expected to patrol and control what people think and feel in addition to how they act? Are they some sort of, I don’t know, Thought Police? IF ONLY SOMEONE HAD WARNED US ABOUT THIS.

The memo goes on to list examples of what constitutes “discriminatory” language:

“A hotel prohibits its housekeepers from speaking Spanish while cleaning because it would ‘offend’ hotel guests or make them uncomfortable,” reads one hypothetical.

“An Indian immigrant family complains to their landlord about mold and cockroaches in their unit. The landlord tells them to ‘just deal with it’ and threatens to call ICE if they file a complaint in housing court,” reads another.

“A store owner tells two friends who are speaking Thai while shopping in his store to ‘speak English’ and ‘go back to your country,’ ” reads a third.

So, uh, I don’t know, 1. Get another job, 2. That’s already illegal and, by the way, if your landlord is willing to report you to ICE for complaining about mold what makes you think he won’t for complaining to the Thought Police?, 3. Shop somewhere else. How do they even intend to enforce this? What percentage of these cases is going to boil down to “he said/she said?” ALL OF THEM??

It’s not like we need to ask why this shoddy “legislation” is being introduced now.

The Commission on Human Rights made clear that the directive is, at least in part, a rebuke of federal crackdowns on illegal immigration.

“In the face of increasingly hostile national rhetoric, we will do everything in our power to make sure our treasured immigrant communities are able to live with dignity and respect, free of harassment and bias,” said Carmelyn Malalis, the agency’s commissioner.

When are they going to realize that they won’t be in power forever, and these precedents are just as viable to hurt them as their “opponents?”
