Introducing Our New Interns! Plus, Other News About Content At COTR!

As we mentioned in a couple of our videos earlier this week, we got ourselves some interns!  We had hoped for 2-3, so finding four amazing, talented women – unique in their perspectives and eager to contribute – is making us feel incredibly fortunate and really excited about the future content you’ll find here at COTR!

Erin and Rachel have assumed “Chief Chicktern” roles, and they’ll continue to provide content on weekends and you might also see their work from time to time during the weekdays as well!

Each of our new “chickterns” will be introducing themselves to you individually in their first posts next week, but I wanted to give you a sneak peek!

In no particular order, our four new Chickterns are:

Gale – Gale is a college senior currently spending a semester in DC.  She hails from the great state of Alaska, but loves to travel, appreciates learning about new cultures (and food!) and loves dogs (which has basically almost become a prerequisite for being part of the Chick family). She’s as bubbly and energetic as can be, and while she’s an avid nature lover, she’s not the kind who sits around screaming at trees.

Kelley – Kelley is a fellow Hoosier, who brings PLENTY of writing experience to the table, having written for two local newspapers, being published in magazines, and even winning a few writing awards!  Kelley is “our” age – which means she’s younger than me but older than Daisy – and Daisy and I are only 2 years apart.  She’s a single mom, and she homeschooled her youngest son.  She currently works at a public library, which affords her many opportunities to READ, but not quite as many to WRITE, which is where her passion lies.  And we’re happy to be her outlet!

Liberty –  Liberty is also “our” age, a Colorado mom of two teenaged daughters, the owner of two yellow labs, and a long-time COTR follower (like – even as far back as 2009!) She freelances from home doing research consulting, and for about a year and a half now, has taken to her personal FB page to write political commentary.  Politics and current events have become her hobby and passion, and she’s excited to move her commentary to a platform where there’s a vibrant, engaged community of readers!

Karen Ashley – Karen is a recent graduate with a degree in Government, and she will be taking the LSAT this November with the intention of applying to law school in the spring.  She’s a single mom of a gorgeous 6 year old daughter, and knows what it means to struggle, having grown up in Section 8 housing, being unlawfully evicted, and fighting for her right to return to her home. Working through that adversity helped inspire the passion she has for conservatism and constitutional law.  She’s employed full time, but still wants a chance to contribute to COTR on weekdays as she can.  I don’t know if Karen will be sharing her photo publicly, but you can take it from us, she is a TOTAL SMOKESHOW.

BUT WAIT!  THERE’S MORE!

We had numerous requests from some of our long-time followers for a way to contribute content, too, and that made our hearts have all the feels.  We also received some messages from folks who weren’t necessarily right for our chicktern opportunity, but have unique and interesting stories to tell, and so Daisy and I talked about how we can bring our regular followers into the conversation more and also bring some attention to stories that we think y’all will find interesting.

And so here’s what we came up with.  If you’re a regular commenter, and/or you feel passionate about a topic or have an interesting story to tell that you think will resonate with our community, we invite you to submit an article to [email protected] at any time.  Select articles will be chosen from time to time to publish here on the site, with full credit given to you however you’d like (your real full name, or a pseudonym – whatever your preference).

Submitting an article doesn’t guarantee publication, but we’re very interested in hearing your stories and allowing our regular folks to become more involved with sharing content and starting conversations that are of interest to the wider community.

We’re excited about the new voices our chickterns are bringing to the table, and can’t wait for them to introduce themselves to you more fully early this week!
