According to Energy Star, which is a program managed by the Dept of Energy and EPA, if you want to optimize energy efficiency and protect the environment, you need to keep your home’s temperature at 78 degrees during the day. While you’re in it.
And if that wasn’t preposterous enough, they also say you should keep your home at a MINIMUM of 82 degrees at night, while you’re asleep, and under the covers.
Obviously, anyone who participated in setting these standards should be jailed.
Energy Star also suggests that while you’re away from home, at work, that you set your thermostat to 85 or higher.
No other conclusion can be drawn here except that everyone working for Energy Star is a complete psychopath.
But they have REASONS, you guys. They say for every degree you raise the temp on your thermostat, you save 3% on your utility bill. You’ll never be comfortable and you’ll never have company and you’ll probably be homicidal, but yeah. You might save a little money.
I don’t know about y’all, but the whole reason I spend money on air conditioning at all is to Actually Use It To Be Comfortable.
Now, I haven’t seen any information from Energy Star about what temperature your thermostat should be set to in the winter months, but I’m guessing it’s around 45 degrees or so. Because you guys – you can probably save 3% on your heating if you just wear a full length down coat and some Uggs while you’re lounging around at home.
Hey Energy Star?
