As Tensions Escalate, the FAA Bans American Planes From Flying In Areas Of the Middle East

As tensions with Iran continue to escalate, the Federal Aviation Administration has announced that the US has now banned American-registered aircraft from flying over certain areas in the Middle East.

The FAA issued the following statement:

#FAA Statement: The FAA has issued a Notice to Airmen (#NOTAM) prohibiting U.S.-registered aircraft from operating over the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. The NOTAM applies to all U.S. air carriers and commercial operators. pic.twitter.com/Z5eVX6hyOx

“The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) prohibiting U.S.-registered aircraft from operating over the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman,” the FAA said in a statement. “The NOTAM warns pilots that flights are not permitted in the overwater area of the Tehran Flight Information Region until further notice, due to heightened military activities and increased political tensions that might place commercial flights at risk. The NOTAM applies to all U.S. air carriers and commercial operators.”
