WATCH: This is the question Amy Klobuchar would ask President Trump
Ok, this story legitimately has multiple levels of “ICK” to it.
At a Saturday event in Iowa, Klobuchar claimed Sen. McCain, R-Ariz., “kept reciting to me names of dictators during that speech because he knew more than any of us what we were facing as a nation.”
“He understood it. He knew because he knew [Trump] more than any of us did,” Klobuchar said in her speech, as The Hill reported.
UUUUGH.
So Trump is a dictator. GOOD ONE.
I absolutely DESPISE that McCain did this. It’s classless – but I suppose not entirely unexpected.
I also DESPISE that Klobuchar is using this as a campaign move. Who exactly is she trying to appeal to here? I really have no idea.
And then, of course, I really do like what Meghan McCain has to say most of the time… and while I UNDERSTAND wanting to be defensive of her late father, she also has to understand that he brought this upon himself throughout his entire life. He was a very public figure in life – he will continue to be a public figure in death.
It’s all a mess… and I hate every last part of it.
According to Fox News:
Meghan McCain responded to Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s claim the late Sen. John McCain “kept reciting to me names of dictators” during President Trump’s inaugural address.
McCain took to Twitter Monday to criticize Klobuchar, D-Minn., a 2020 presidential candidate, for invoking her father’s “legacy and memory” during a campaign event.
On behalf of the entire McCain family – @amyklobuchar please be respectful to all of us and leave my fathers legacy and memory out of presidential politics.
— Meghan McCain (@MeghanMcCain) May 27, 2019
“On behalf of the entire McCain family, [Amy Klobuchar], please be respectful to all of us and leave my father’s legacy and memory out of presidential politics.” McCain wrote.
Here’s the thing: NO ONE but MCCAIN is guilty for inserting HIMSELF into presidential politics.
He did over and over and over again – and the fact that he’s passed away doesn’t CHANGE that.
I GET that Meghan wants to protect her dad – but when will she realize that she cannot defend him from his OWN actions?
As much as I dislike Klobuchar – she’s not the one making McCain look bad here. He is.
