Professor Claims ‘Whiteness Is Terrorism’

WATCH: Columnist says America needs to start profiling white men

Meet Johnny Eric Williams. He’s a Professor of Sociology at Trinity College who has a major beef with white people. He has a history of this sort of thing, but for some reason, he remains employed.

I guess he thinks he can get away with being a hateful jerk. Hence, these new tweets.

He recently tweeted that “whiteness is terrorism.” He also said that “all self-identified white people (no exceptions) are invested in and collude with systematic white racism/white supremacy.”

Huh. I didn’t know I was colluding with white supremacy by merely existing.

In what world is this appropriate? This man is a PROFESSOR. I guarantee he has white students. I’m sure they love knowing that their professor judges them on the color of their skin.

A spokeswoman for Trinity College said this in an email Tuesday:

“Yes, we know about the tweets by Professor Williams, which were made in the context of his academic scholarship on issues of race. A discussion of the tweets followed on a closed Facebook group of some Trinity alumni. In that thread, an alumnus reports having reached out to ask Professor Williams about the tweets. Professor Williams then shared a broader scholarly context for the statements, as well as some relevant publications on the concept of whiteness. The context provided by Professor Williams speaks for itself.”

Wait wait wait. So they’re DEFENDING his remarks? No no. There’s no “broader scholarly context” that makes saying “whiteness is terrorism” OK. Are these people out of their minds?

Campus Reform also got a statement:

“Trinity College supports academic freedom and free expression and inquiry, which are hallmarks of academia and democratic society,” Trinity College President Joanne Berger-Sweeney told Campus Reform. “When speech proves controversial, our responsibility as educators is to promote more debate and discussion, not less. Twitter is a challenging place for a thoughtful discourse, which is clear from this example.”

This professor sounds like a nightmare, and the school continues to defend him.

Simply unbelievable.
