WATCH: Christians are tired of being bullied for faith
Republican Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey is facing a ton of backlash over his recent Easter post.
This is the “controversial” post:
It’s not like he was randomly posting this just for the heck of it. it was for very special Christian day– Easter.
Doesn’t matter. Secularists are mad and accusing Ducey of violating the whole “separation of church and state” concept.
In the letter sent to the governor Tuesday, Secular Communities attorney Dianne Post wrote that “elected officials should not use their government position and government property to promote their religious views.”
She said the courts have repeatedly “struck down symbolism that unites government with religion,” and the Governor’s Office must “represent and protect the rights of all residents of Arizona, including those who do not believe in a monotheistic god or any gods at all.”
“Separation of church and state” doesn’t mean the separation of religion from politics completely. It simply means the government should not establish a state or national religion. Last time I checked, Ducey was simply celebrating Easter, not telling everyone that they need to accept Jesus as their Savior or else.
Instead of backing down– as most politicians would– Ducey doubled down and said he will not be removing his post now or ever.
We won’t be removing this post. Ever. Nor will we be removing our posts for Christmas, Hanukkah, Rosh Hashanah, Palm Sunday, Passover or any other religious holiday. We support the First Amendment, and are happy to provide copies of the Constitution to anyone who hasn’t read it. https://t.co/UzZpLAzzuW
