Dude. I know you’re gay, but this is a bad move.
Pete Buttigieg, the South Bend, Indiana mayor running to be the youngest, gayest president ever, was on “The Breakfast Club” show, and said that he doesn’t approve of Chick-fil-A’s politics, and only “kind of” approves of their chicken.
What. In. The. Holy. Hell.
How do you only “kind of” approve of what Daisy affectionately refers to as the Lord’s Chicken?
And what are the politics of Chick-fil-A? Because link me to their official PAC please.
Ohhhh wait. You mean you’re dragging up that time in 2012 when the president of Chick-fil-A said he believes in traditional marriage? Is that it?
Find me a Chick-fil-A that has discriminated against a gay person. Find me a Chick-fil-A that has mistreated a gay person.
I’ll wait.
If the founder of the Lord’s Chicken wants to donate money to groups that support his religious views, who freaking cares? It doesn’t make his chicken taste any less delicious.
Buttigieg said in the same interview that he could bridge the gap between the gay community and Chick-fil-A. “So maybe if nothing else, I can build that bridge. Maybe I’ll become in a position to broker that peace deal.”
If you’re a person who doesn’t eat Chick-fil-A because you think it’s somehow anti-gay, you’re a moron. There is nothing anti-gay about chicken. You just have a different opinion about marriage than the founder of the restaurant. You probably have a different opinion than the founders of lots of restaurants you eat at about lots of things. Do you not realize that? IT IS SO FREAKING DUMB to be mad at Chick-fil-A.
Buttigieg intends to use his gayness to “reach other people,” saying, “To me there’s two things that can happen when you are conscious of your identity. One is it turns into all these ways we separate ourselves from each other, and it just turns into one big, you don’t know me. But the other way we can do it is we can say, OK I’ve got this experience, you’ve got this experience, what can we talk about that brings us together?”
You were right in the first half of that statement, Pete. Identity politics divides and separates. That’s all it’s good for. And it’s why you’ll lose.
But rock on with your chickenless, gay self.
