Liberals have dodged the question forever. They are big fans of progressive tax codes, but they’ve never really been able to come up with the “magic” number. How much is “enough” money? When are you rich enough?
AOC decided to answer. You see, she’s really passionate about implementing a marginal tax rate of 70%. After what amount, you ask? $10 million. That’s the magic number.
“If you make more than $10 million in one year, which is a pretty good year … your ten millionth and one dollar gets taxed at 70%, which, by the way, we used to have marginal tax rates under Republican presidents of 90%, and it was when we experienced some of the largest rates of economic [growth in the United States],” she said.
As the Daily Wire notes, the US was enjoying a little something called the “post-war manufacturing boom.” Apparently, AOC thought it’d be easier to leave that little detail out.
“…It really comes down to the question of, isn’t $10 million enough? Like, when does it stop, right? At what point is it immoral that we’re building Jeff Bezos a helipad when we have the most amount of homeless people in New York City?” she continued.
NO. “We’re” not building him anything. That’s HIS MONEY. It just goes to show the left’s mentality. Nothing is really “yours.” If you’re wealthy, it’s because you’re obviously exploiting someone else.
It’s about the principle of the matter. What right do YOU think YOU have, AOC, to tell someone when they’ve made “enough”? Why does the government have the right to say, “Sorry– $10 million is PLENTY of money, so we’re going to take 70% of everything you make after that, because you are OUT OF CONTROL.”
AOC actually believes that it’s immoral to allow you to keep the fruits of your labor. She’s assuming that YOUR WEALTH is causing OTHERS to be poor, so you must pay. It’s an incredibly demented way of thinking. If anything, we should THANK the wealthy for overpaying for all the crap we enjoy. I remember when iPhones first came out. I remember seeing pictures of celebrities with them in my teen magazines and thought, “Wow. It must be nice to be so rich. I wonder if I’ll ever have one of those. HAHA YEAH RIGHT.”
WELL GUESS WHAT. Rich people totally overpaid for the devices, the company perfected it and WHADDYA KNOW. Now EVERYONE has one. It’s the cycle. Not to mention that many super wealthy people use their wealth to invest in innovate. Individuals are more effective with their money. The government constantly mismanages. It’s a bloated mess.
I digress.
I don’t care how much you make. The government isn’t entitled to 70% of your income at ANY POINT.
The truth is, no one can say what “enough” looks like, because everyone would have a different answer.
Wise up, America. We can’t let the government– or people like AOC– make those calls.
