Lara Trump Under Fire Over ‘Controversial’ Remarks On The Government Shutdown

Lara Trump recently participated in a discussion with BOLD TV host Carrie Sheffield. Sheffield asked Lara what she would say to the furloughed government workers who aren’t currently getting paid.

“…in terms of the workers who are coming to work and not getting paid, what would you say to them?” Sheffield asked.

Her response was completely reasonable, but people are freaking out over it anyway.

“Listen this is, it’s not fair to you and we all get that but this is so much bigger than any one person,” Lara Trump said.

“It is a little bit of pain but it’s going to be for the future of our country and their children and their grandchildren and generations after them will thank them for their sacrifice,” she continued. “Right now, I know it’s hard. I know people have families they have bills to pay, they have mortgages, they have rents that are due.”

“But the president is trying every single day to come up with a good solution here. And the reality is, it’s been something that’s gone on for too long and been unaddressed, our immigration problem. If we do nothing right now it’s never going to get fixed,” she added. “If we do nothing right now, it’s never gonna get fixed. This is our one opportunity. So, I would just tell them please stay strong. We appreciate everything that you’re sacrificing. We’re behind you and we’re going to do everything we can. The President is doing everything he can to resolve this quickly.”

It’s a bit dramatic, if you ask me. Yes– it ABSOLUTELY sucks for them right now, but most of these workers WILL GET BACK PAY. Also, people in the private sector go through this kind of stuff all the time. It just doesn’t get national attention.

Whether you like the way she said it or not, she’s right– this is a bigger issue. It sucks that the shutdown is tied to border security, but it’s the ONLY WAY President Trump can force the issue. Otherwise, lawmakers will continue to kick the can down the road, as they have been doing for YEARS. Border security must be addressed. Enough is enough. It’s just sad that Democrats don’t care enough about federal workers to agree to a BASIC FREAKING BORDER WALL.

As Lara Trump noted:

“It’s gonna last as long as these Democrats keep playing politics,” Lara Trump said. “The reality is, the president is out there fighting every single day, for what he knows is the right thing to do. He knows we need to reform our broken immigration system. He knows that we need a wall or a structure of some sort, however you wanna talk about it on our Southern border. The reality is, the Democrats who oppose this so strongly right now, not too many years ago were all on board with this, because it was under a different President. So, he knows that he is going to win this, the reality is he’s got the people of the country behind him. They voted him in office, because this is one of his campaign promises. So, I think it’s gonna last as long as it takes these Democrats to come to the table.”

THEY could fix this, but they won’t, because they hate Trump. That’s all there is to it.
