Scott Israel– the totally incompetent and obstinate sheriff of Broward County, is out. Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended him.
“He failed in his duties to keep our families and children safe during the devastating shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14,2018,” DeSantis said in a statement.
“Sheriff Israel has repeatedly failed and has demonstrated a pattern of poor leadership,” he continued. “These incidents demonstrate Sheriff Israel’s repeated incompetence and neglect of duty. The families of the victims deserve accountability.”
Today, I issued an executive order suspending @OCSD1 Superintendent Mary Beth Jackson. Our students should always feel safe at school and I look forward to the changes that her replacement, Asst. Superintendent Marcus Chambers, will bring to the district. https://t.co/KBBB67e6B2

Israel thinks he’s going to fight this.
Despite the rebuke, Sheriff Israel vowed to fight the executive order and pursue the matter in the state senate, which has the authority to hear an appeal and make a final ruling on his status.
“There was no wrongdoing on my part. I served the county honorably,” said Mr. Israel, adding that, “For now, it’s on to court.”
He argued that he was being suspended for his political statements in favor of gun control following the shooting, calling his removal a “massive political power grab by the governor to subvert the will of the Broward County voter.”
It’s not over, but heck yeah, Gov. DeSantis. This is a good start.
