Oh. My. Gosh.
Meet Mary Turner Thomson. She’s a 53-year-old Scottish woman who thought she was in a happy, healthy relationship with her American husband, William Allen Jordan. He was supposedly a “secret agent.” They met online in 2000, and he proposed just three weeks after they met. She said yes, but they didn’t get married until 2002. Why? Because he was always on special “missions” for his job. You know. Being a “secret agent” and all.
Wanna know what his “special missions” were? Meeting up with his other wives. That’s right. He was married to several women and had over a dozen other children. I kid you not.
Now, Thomson is once again speaking out about her ex-husband’s betrayal, comparing the scandal to that of a television drama, and detailing the painful process of finding out that she had been lied to for so many years.
‘I met William online when I was a single mother with a nine-month old baby,’ Thomson said. ‘He was very charming, and we sent emails back and forth.
‘We started dating and he actually asked me to marry him within two weeks of meeting – I said no, but we did eventually get engaged, then were married for four years.’
Thomson quickly became entrapped in Jordan’s web of lies, not only falling for his story about being an active CIA agent who would often have to disappear for months at a time on various ‘missions’ – but also believing him when he told her that he was infertile due to a childhood illness.
That lie deteriorated after she became pregnant. But what did he do? He continued to lie.
He even persuaded Thomson to find more than $250,000 to pay ‘blackmailers’ he claimed had threatened to kidnap their children Eilidh, now 16, Zach, 13, and her daughter Robyn, 19.
‘In 2004 when I was pregnant with Zach, he told me somebody he met on an undercover operation was going to kill our kids, kidnap them, rip bits off and send them to us in the post if we didn’t give them money,’ she explained.
‘By this stage, I was four years in and completely under his control, so I sold everything I owned – my house, my car, my life insurance, everything.’
That’s horrifying.
Things started falling apart in 2005, after he was arrested. But even then, he continued to try to feed her lie after lie after lie.
Jordan’s deception came to light at the end of 2005 when he told Thomson that he’d had a run-in with the police over what he described as a ‘misunderstanding’ relating to a friend’s credit card.
‘He assured me that as a member of the intelligence community he had a code-word that acted as a ‘get-out-of-jail-free’ card and that he’d used it,’ Thomson said of the incident at the time.
Jordan then vanished again shortly before Christmas that year and called in January to warn Thomson that the police were about to ring her.
He told his wife that the police would claim he had been arrested for bigamy, insisting that the charges were an error on the part of the authorities, who had found ‘papers’ relating to a CIA asset named Julie, who he claimed had been posing as his wife in order to conduct spy work in the UK.
What a serial LIAR.
He also told her that the police would try to feed her nonsense about him being a sex offender. The truth? He was convicted of molesting an underage girl in 1997, only three years before they met.
For some reason completely beyond me, Mary Turner Thomson continued to believe him. It wasn’t until another one of his wives called her that her eyes were opened.
But despite the incredible fabrication, Thomson believed him, and it was only when his fake ‘asset’, Julie Bringhurst – who was in fact another of his wives – phoned her, that Jordan’s true deception was made painfully clear to her.
Bringhurst, who had been married to Jordan for 16 years and had five children with him, phoned Thomson, asking if she was ‘Mrs. Jordan’, before saying: ‘Well, I’m the other Mrs Jordan.’
‘We met in a café and talked for about 12 hours. When she left at six in the morning, I sent him a text and dumped him,’ Thomson recalled.
‘I carried on talking to him to get information, but he never wavered from his story and said time would vindicate him. It was all nonsense.’
Was that the end of his lies? Nope. He somehow managed to trick another woman in 2013. They were together for over a year.
Lewis says she was planning a wedding and children with Jordan when, in late 2014, she began to realize who he really was, making the shocking discovery about his past crimes, and his past wives and children – all of whom he had covered up throughout their romance.
The nurse and mother-of-two tipped the police off to Jordan’s whereabouts after pulling together all the evidence she needed about his previous offenses, and he was arrested in a parking lot of a strip mall in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, in February of 2015.
Jordan was later sentenced to three years in state prison.
I just can’t believe he managed to trick so many women and get away with destroying so many lives for so long. Disgusting.
