December 4, 2018A few days ago, the White House announced that we reached a 90-day tariff ceasefire of sorts.
“President Trump and President Xi have agreed to immediately begin negotiations on structural changes with respect to forced technology transfer, intellectual property protection, non-tariff barriers, cyber intrusions and cyber theft, services and agriculture,” the White House said in a statement.
“China will agree to purchase a not yet agreed upon, but very substantial, amount of agricultural, energy, industrial, and other product from the United States to reduce the trade imbalance between our two countries,” the statement added.
If we can’t reach a deal by the end of the 90 days, things will get real. According to the Hill, “existing 10 percent tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods will be increased to 25 percent.”
Trump’s on a roll. He’s tweeting about it now. The self-described Tariff Man is ON it!
The negotiations with China have already started. Unless extended, they will end 90 days from the date of our wonderful and very warm dinner with President Xi in Argentina. Bob Lighthizer will be working closely with Steve Mnuchin, Larry Kudlow, Wilbur Ross and Peter Navarro…..
