I’m about to say something controversial. I don’t think girl babies HAVE to wear pink only and boy babies HAVE to wear blue. There are cute baby clothes in other colors. But there’s something extra cute about a newborn baby swaddled in the “classic” color of their gender. It’s a preference.
HOWEVER. I think the whole “gender neutral” thing– just to make a political point– is stupid. Buy your baby girl GIRL clothes, and buy your baby boy BOY clothes.
ORRRRRR you can just buy the clothes from Céline Dion’s new “gender neutral” clothing line.
Check out the ad. It’s kiiiiiiinda creepy. It basically shows her breaking into a hospital and blowing glitter, which turns the babies’ clothes to a more “neutral” look. Black and white.
The clothes actually look cute. The ad is creepy. I hate the whole “our children are not really our children” thing. That’s NONSENSE, Céline.
“Our children — they are not really our children, as we are all just links in a never-ending chain that is life,” she says in the ad. “For us, they are everything. But in reality, we are only a fraction of their universe. We miss the past; they dream of tomorrow.”
Blah blah blah blah.
She said she was inspired to create a gender-neutral clothing line after taking her twin boys to Disney. She said they were interested in princesses and Minnie Mouse.
“And then I said, ‘But what about Mickey?’” Dion said. “They replied, ‘Oh, we like Mickey, but can we be…’ And I end up saying to myself, ‘You know what, it’s OK.’ You know why it’s OK? Because they’re talking, they’re finding themselves.”
“You don’t know what they’re going to become later,” she continued. “You don’t want for them to have a problem of growth and say, ‘I’m supposed to be like that. I’m supposed to say that. I’m supposed to dress like this. Because I’m a guy, I’m a boy, I’m supposed to do…’ No. No. You don’t know. Let people be who they are as quick and as soon as possible.”
Oooooooook. I guess we’re just going to ignore a parent’s role of GUIDING HER KID. Plz ignore. “You do you.” (I hate that phrase with every ounce of my being.)
