Megyn Kelly has been under fire over “controversial” remarks made about blackface earlier this week. It all went down during a panel discussion on offensive Halloween costumes.
“But what is racist?” Kelly asked. “Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween.”
“Back when I was a kid that was ok, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character,” she continued.
She also mentioned the backlash Luann de Lesseps got for dressing up as Diana Ross, and I have to say that I’m WITH her on that one.
“She dressed as Diana Ross and she made her skin look darker than it really is. And people said that was racist, and I don’t know. I thought, like, who doesn’t love Diana Ross? She wants to look like Diana Ross for one day? I don’t know how that got racist on Halloween,” Kelly said.
“I can’t keep up with the number of people we’re offending just by being normal people,” she added.

She ended up apologizing BIG time, and it was so weird because it was SO not her.
“One of the wonderful things about my job is that I get the chance to express and hear a lot of opinions. Today is one of those days where listening carefully to other points of view, including from friends and colleagues, is leading me to rethink my own views,” she wrote.
“I realize now that such behavior is indeed wrong, and I am sorry. The history of blackface in our culture is abhorrent; the wounds too deep,” she continued.
“I’ve never been a ‘pc’ kind of person — but I understand that we do need to be more sensitive in this day and age. Particularly on race and ethnicity issues which, far from being healed, have been exacerbated in our politics over the past year,” she added. “This is a time for more understanding, love, sensitivity and honor, and I want to be part of that. I look forward to continuing that discussion.”
That apology isn’t good enough. NBC actually took Kelly off the air today, and she won’t be on tomorrow either.
“Given the circumstances, Megyn Kelly Today will be on tape the rest of the week,” an NBC News spokeswoman said.
It doesn’t sound like it’ll end there. Word has it NBC wants to cancel her morning show completely.
Another source said that Kelly’s show will be ending, but negotiations about the end date and other details are still underway.
One key question: Whether she will stay with NBC News in some other role. She is scheduled to participate in the network’s midterm election night coverage in two weeks.
Kelly has parted ways with her talent agency, CAA, according to the sources, and she has hired attorney Bryan Freedman.
Nothing is official yet. Even if they cancel her morning show, it doesn’t mean necessarily mean that she won’t take on another role within the network, so I guess we’ll see…
