Beto Is So So Soooooooo Sorry For Calling Cruz ‘Lyin Ted’ (Except No He’s Not)

Beto is sorry everyone. He’s sorry for being so negative. That is SO not him, and that is SO not his campaign.

Prior to their most recent debate, Beto told reporters:

“I won’t go negative. It won’t be personal. I’m not going to be partisan. I’m not going to be petty. People are sick of that stuff. I’m sick of that stuff,” O’Rourke said Monday night. “And if I’m going to walk the talk, this is my chance to do it in the remaining 22 days with everything on the line. We’re not only going to run this the right way, but we’re going to win this the right way.”

He proceeded to release a bunch of attack ads IN ADDITION to invoking Cruz’s old nickname, “Lyin Ted.”

“This is what you can expect over course of the debate: Senator Cruz won’t be honest with you. He’s dishonest. It’s why the president called him ‘Lyin’ Ted’ and it’s why the nickname stuck — because it’s true,” he said during the debate.

“It’s clear Congressman O’Rourke’s pollsters have told him to come out on the attack,” Cruz said. “If he wants to insult me and call me names, that’s fine.”

“…facts are stubborn things,” he added.

Beto’s really sorry about that, BTW.

“I said ‘look he’s dishonest,'” O’Rourke said during CNN’s Town Hall. “It’s one of the reasons he got tagged with this nickname, and that nickname resonates because it’s true.”

But LISTEN. He’s not totally comfortable using the nickname, which is why…he’s…still….using it???

“I’ve got to tell you, it’s something I don’t feel totally comfortable with, and perhaps in the heat of the moment, I took a step too far,” Beto said. “I don’t know that that’s the way I want to be talking in this campaign.”

Where’s the eyeroll emoji when you need it?

“At the very outset when he began with another lie, I decided that I could either spend the rest of the debate responding to every single dishonest thing he said or I could make sure that everyone understood exactly what he’s doing,” Beto continued.

Cruz didn’t seem too bothered. He said Beto is desperate, which is true. I mean, he should be. Look at the most recent polls:
