This Is An Actual Assignment For A College English Class. Let’s Help This Student Out!

We received a really interesting email from a mom of a college student attending a university in Arizona. I’m going to keep the name of the college as well as the name of the sender of the email private, but when I read it, I couldn’t help but think that our community of clever and competent readers here at COTR would be GREAT at helping this woman’s daughter out with her assignment.

Here’s her message:

Hi There!

I am completely new to your website and facebook articles and I just wanted to tell you that it is so refreshing to know I am not the only one that has the same thoughts and concerns as you ladies!!! I get so frustrated with the media and your approach is so refreshing and keeps my blood pressure a bit more under control.

My daughter is 18 and at (redacted). I noticed an assignment for English class regarding the Me Too Movement:

For perhaps thousands of years these issues have been avoided, ignored, or simply not considered a problem by many societies. Why do you believe this was the case? What religious, cultural, ideological forces have been responsible for such phenomena?

In the current “me too” era, how do you navigate your interactions with other females/males?

What are the responsibilities that men and women have with respect to this issue?

Are there any negative side effects of this movement? If so, what are they?

I immediately thought of you ladies when I read the questions. I am wondering if you have posted any articles that my daughter can read and familiarize herself with. She is Canadian and honestly doesn’t know much about US politics so I am trying to steer her in the “Right” direction!

Ps. I am an American Citizen living in Canada (not because Trump is President, I was there long before!) I just called to get my ballot sent to me so I can vote in this election in November!

I responded to this mom and let her know I wanted to publish her post here to gather thoughts from our community. We’ve written SO MUCH about the #metoo movement and feminism in general, I wouldn’t know where to even begin to tell her to start. What I find amazing though, is that this is an ENGLISH assignment. I mean, WTF. Why is this a topic in an English class?
