Where were you 17 years ago today? I was in second grade at the time. I remember someone coming into our classroom and whispering something to my teacher. Her jaw dropped, and she put her hand over her mouth. She was shocked. I’ll never forget her face. My dad picked me up from school. He was always steady, so I didn’t feel panicked. I asked him what what happening, and I remember he kept it pretty general. After all, I was only 7 or 8. I just remember him using the words “bad people.”
I went home and my mom had the TV on. I remember watching burning buildings and had no idea what to make of it. That’s all I really remember of the day, but my teacher’s face– that will stick with me forever.
The magnitude of what happened didn’t really hit me until years later.
Trump signed a proclamation today, designating “Patriot Day 2018” to honor the those who have lost their lives. There are so many beautiful tributes on Twitter today.

Susan and I join all Americans in commemorating the terrorist attacks on #September11th. The events of that day, and the hatred of America by the murderous jihadists, are etched in our memory.
