Is This The New Ebola? SECOND Case Of “Monkeypox” Recorded In England

Remember when a HUGE outbreak of Ebola hit Western Africa and then people traveling between Africa and Europe or America started spreading it and people were LOSING THEIR SH*T over a disease that literally makes your guts liquify until you bleed from every orifice?

Well. Now there’s MONKEYPOX.

Cue someone screaming that “monkeypox” are racist because they have the word MONKEY in them and they’re from Africa.

No… they’re literally spread through contact with monkeys. So slow your roll, ok?

Anyway. They’re in England for the first time ever.

According to Fox News: 

A second case of monkeypox was reportedly discovered in England, just days after the first-ever case in the country was confirmed in Cornwall.

Both patients are believed to have recently visited Nigeria, but the two cases appear unrelated, the Independent reported.

I was in Lagos, Nigeria for about 12 hours once. Those were 12 of the worst hours of my life, but that’s a story for another time.

I suddenly feel itchy. Looking at a bunch of pictures of it sure didn’t help.

Unlike Ebola, Monkeypox aren’t cause for WORLDWIDE PANIC. At least, not yet.

Monkeypox is a rare disease that does not spread easily between people. It’s considered mild, and typically occurs in remote parts of central and west Africa, according to the World Health Organization. The virus lives in animals but can be transmitted to humans. In 2017 Nigeria experienced its first outbreak of the viral illness since 1978, according to WHO.

So um… leave wild monkeys alone, ok?

“Bushmeat” isn’t worth facial blisters.

“It is likely that monkeypox continues to circulate in Nigeria and could therefore affect travelers who are returning from this part of the world, however, it is very unusual to see two cases in such a relatively short space of time,” Dr. Nick Phin, deputy director of Public Health England’s National Infection Service, said, according the Independent.

Unusual and… I’ll be honest: kind of unsettling.

The symptoms are similar to those of smallpox… but not nearly as bad.

The virus is less deadly than smallpox, with symptoms appearing about two weeks after exposure. Patients may experience fever, headache, loss of appetite, muscle aches and swollen lymph nodes, according to Live Science.

Patients then may develop a rash, typically on the face and trunk, which progresses to fluid-filled blisters before scabbing and falling off. It takes about two to four weeks to recover from an infection.

With that being said… do NOT search Google images for monkeypox if you’re squeamish.
